Water Line Breaks Near Disney World, Entire Area Without Drinking Water

Last week, a water line break near Walt Disney World Resort caused widespread disruption, leaving residents and nearby guests without drinking water for several hours. Although the water service was restored by the next day, many residents reported discolored water that appeared brown and unfit for use. Local authorities quickly issued a boil water advisory for the affected areas, urging residents to take precautions before using tap water.

Summer, who lives just five minutes from Walt Disney World Resort, discovered her home had lost access to running water late that night. “Literally nothing” was coming out of her faucets, and after contacting her neighbor, she learned they were facing the same issue. She also received a notification through her Ring app alerting her that there was no water in much of Lake Buena Vista, the city where Walt Disney World Resort is located.

Other locals and guests staying in nearby hotels commented that they were experiencing similar issues.

The next morning, Summer reported that crews had worked throughout the night to restore service, but the water that came back was “poo brown.” By mid-morning, the water had lightened somewhat, though it remained discolored.

Many others from the area, including those at non-Disney hotels, reported similar problems with their water.

Due to the contamination risk, local officials issued a boil water advisory for the area. They advised residents to boil tap water for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or washing dishes. However, it was deemed safe to shower and do laundry as long as people avoided contact with the water in their eyes or mouth.

According to Summer, the cause of the water outage was a large water main break. Walt Disney World Resort’s water supply is separate from the local system, meaning the theme parks and Disney Resort hotels were unaffected by the disruption.
