A Disneyland breakfast can become as carefully planned as any attraction—particularly when Minnie Mouse, waffles, and a table full of character visits are involved.
Guests thought they had until August 9 to experience Minnie & Friends – Breakfast in the Park before Plaza Inn’s character dining temporarily disappeared. Disneyland has now moved that deadline, giving late-summer visitors another week.
The updated Plaza Inn dining page states: “The Character Dining experience at Plaza Inn will be temporarily unavailable starting August 17, 2026, and is expected to return in late September.”
That is seven days later than the August 10 start date Disneyland previously displayed and that Inside the Magic reported earlier in July.
The adjustment is good news for guests visiting from August 10 through August 16. It does not, however, provide greater certainty for families traveling later in August or September. Disney still has not supplied an exact return date.
Disneyland Moves the Plaza Inn Pause to August 17
Plaza Inn sits near the end of Main Street, U.S.A., facing Disneyland’s central hub. Its Victorian dining rooms and familiar fried-chicken meals make it much more than a morning-only restaurant, as Inside the Magic’s guide to Main Street dining explains.
The temporary notice applies specifically to the character-dining experience. Disneyland has not announced that Plaza Inn will close entirely throughout the period, nor has it published details explaining how the restaurant’s other meal periods could be affected.
That distinction matters. Guests should not assume that the restaurant’s American-style lunch and dinner service—or its signature fried chicken—will automatically disappear alongside Minnie & Friends.
It also remains unclear whether Plaza Inn will serve a conventional breakfast without characters during the pause. Disney’s notice says character dining will be unavailable, but it does not describe a replacement breakfast service.
Disney has not explained why it changed the starting date. The most that can safely be concluded is that the currently posted schedule allows the character meal to operate for one additional week.
One More Week Comes After a Plaza Inn Price Increase
The revised date creates a small but meaningful opportunity for families whose trips fall inside that seven-day extension. Plaza Inn is Disneyland Park’s only character-dining location, allowing guests to meet multiple Disney characters without leaving the park or joining separate meet-and-greet lines.
That convenience has become more expensive. Plaza Inn’s character breakfast recently increased from $55 to $58 for adults and from $33 to $35 for children, part of a broader series of Disneyland restaurant price increases.
The pause will also begin shortly before Halloween Time starts at Disneyland Resort on August 21. Guests arriving for the opening weeks of the seasonal celebration may therefore find Plaza Inn’s character breakfast unavailable unless Disney adjusts the schedule again.
Disneyland visitors still have character-dining alternatives outside Disneyland Park. Storytellers Cafe at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa offers character breakfast and brunch, while Goofy’s Kitchen operates at the Disneyland Hotel. Those experiences require leaving the park, however, changing the time and transportation calculations of a tightly planned day.
That makes Plaza Inn unusually useful: the meal, character interactions, and Disneyland touring day all happen inside the same gate.
Construction Does Not Explain the Character-Dining Pause—At Least Not Yet
Plaza Inn’s exterior has received visible attention recently, including scrim around part of the building. The surrounding area also changed after a tree fell near the restaurant during severe weather in February. Inside the Magic previously covered both the fallen tree near Plaza Inn and the resulting response.
Those developments provide relevant physical context, but they do not establish why character dining will pause. Disneyland has not publicly connected the August interruption to the exterior work, the fallen tree, a restaurant refurbishment, or any operational change.
Likewise, the earlier conclusion of the Plaza Inn Paint the Night dining package does not prove that the two scheduling decisions are connected.
Without an explanation from Disney, presenting construction as the confirmed cause would turn visual coincidence into unsupported fact.
What Plaza Inn Guests Should Check Next
Anyone holding a Plaza Inn character-breakfast reservation between August 10 and August 16 should check the Disneyland app before changing plans. Those dates now appear to fall before the pause, but operating schedules can change.
Guests booked from August 17 through late September should verify the status of their reservation directly with Disneyland. “Expected to return” is projected language, not a guaranteed reopening commitment, and “late September” leaves multiple possible dates.
For now, the practical change is narrow but welcome: Minnie & Friends will remain at Plaza Inn one week longer than Disneyland first indicated. What happens inside the restaurant after August 16—and precisely when the characters return—remains unfinished business on Disneyland’s calendar.
