Universal Orlando Just Lost a Piece of 1990

Here’s What’s Still Left

You could go to Universal Studios Florida to see a movie star and end up watching a pug. At Animal Actors on Location!, that was part of the fun. The performers had paws, wings, and a knack for making the work of their trainers look easy. Now one of the few experiences that can trace its history to the park’s first day is gone for good.

The Animal Actors closure took effect Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at Universal Studios Florida. Disney Fanatic’s coverage of the show’s last day put the final performances on Monday, November 2. Universal’s official park calendar lists November 3 as the permanent closure date.

If you want to revisit the Universal that opened in 1990, you can still put E.T. Adventure on your list. The Horror Make-Up Show has opening-day roots, too, although it’s temporarily closed while Universal prepares a new version. The two attractions tell different stories about what survives when a theme park changes around them.

The Animal Actors Closure Ends a Tradition From Opening Day

The attraction debuted as Animal Actors Stage on June 7, 1990, the same day Universal Studios Florida opened. As Disney Fanatic covered in its report on the original closure announcement, the production went through several identities over the years. It became Animal Planet Live and later Animal Actors on Location!, but audiences could still sit down and see trained animals work alongside their handlers.

Universal’s Animal Actors attraction page featured photos of a bird landing on a guest’s hand and a pug dressed as Frank from Men in Black. Those two images tell you a lot about what the show could do. A familiar character brought a movie to mind. A live demonstration gave guests a chance to see the timing and training that can make an animal’s moment on camera look effortless.

That was a particularly Universal kind of entertainment. You could spend one part of your day inside a movie’s story and another learning how a performance came together. Animal Actors kept the filmmaking side of that idea visible for 36 years, even as the name above the stage changed.

E.T. Adventure Still Gives Fans a Way Back to 1990

At E.T. Adventure in the park’s Hollywood section, the flying bikes still take guests on a trip to E.T.’s home planet. The ride belongs to the same opening-day lineup as Animal Actors, but it represents a different side of early Universal. The theater gave you a look at the people and animals who make a screen performance possible. On E.T., you get to help the character yourself.

If Animal Actors was the one stop everyone in your group could agree on, check the ride requirements before putting E.T. in that slot. Universal lists a 34-inch minimum height and requires a supervising companion for riders under 48 inches. Those limits matter for families who used the show as a break between rides or as something younger kids could enjoy with the rest of the group.

Universal’s Other Opening-Day Show Is Getting a Second Act

The Horror Make-Up Show is a reminder that an empty stage can mean something different down the street. Universal’s calendar still lists it under temporary closures as of November 3. Disney Fanatic’s coverage of the Blumhouse reimagining details the announced return and how the refreshed production will bring classic and contemporary horror filmmaking together.

For longtime fans, the connection to Animal Actors is the chance to see part of the work behind the movies. The Horror Make-Up Show built its act around effects and comedy, while Animal Actors put the focus on trainers and live animal performances. If you’re visiting this month, check the November closure rundown as you plan, then confirm what’s available on Universal’s calendar for your date.

The Animal Actors Site Has a Future, but Universal Hasn’t Revealed It

Universal has said that the show is making way for a new experience. As Disney Fanatic noted in its look at Universal’s park projects, the announcement left the specifics open. As of November 3, Universal hasn’t revealed a name, an opening date, or whether the existing amphitheater will be part of the project.

That last detail is worth watching. A new attraction could give fans a fresh reason to head to that corner of the park. Whether they’ll be going there to take a seat and watch a live performance again is the question Universal still has to answer.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
