Disneyland guests who have missed one of Fantasyland's most recognizable attractions finally have a reason to celebrate. After several weeks behind construction walls, a beloved piece of the park's history is getting ready to reopen.
The attraction has been part of Disneyland since Walt Disney welcomed the first visitors more than seven decades ago. While countless other experiences have disappeared or undergone major transformations, this longtime favorite has remained a familiar part of the park.
Now, Disney has listed a return date, giving October visitors a better idea of when they can experience the classic ride again.
Disneyland's 71-Year-Old Attraction Gets a Reopening Date
Mad Tea Party is scheduled to reopen at Disneyland Park on October 16, 2026, following a refurbishment that began September 14.
According to the Disneyland app, the attraction will close on October 15, allowing guests to return the following day.
The Fantasyland favorite first opened July 17, 1955, making it one of Disneyland's original attractions.
Inspired by Alice in Wonderland (1951), the experience places riders inside oversized teacups that spin beneath colorful lanterns.
During the refurbishment, Disney surrounded Mad Tea Party with temporary construction walls. However, the barriers weren't completely plain.
Disney added decorative details inspired by Fantasyland's architecture, along with colorful patterns resembling the lanterns normally hanging above the ride.
Signs also informed guests about the temporary closure and directed them toward nearby attractions.
With the reopening approaching, the construction project appears to be entering its final stretch.

What Makes This Attraction a Disneyland Classic?
Disneyland has welcomed generations of visitors since 1955, but many attractions from the park's earliest years are no longer around.
Mad Tea Party remains one of the exceptions.
Unlike newer attractions that rely on advanced technology, screens, and elaborate special effects, this Fantasyland favorite keeps things simple.
Guests climb into a teacup and use the wheel in the center to control how quickly it spins.
Some families prefer a slower experience, while others turn the wheel faster for a more intense ride.
That straightforward design has helped Mad Tea Party remain popular across generations.
Its colorful setting and connection to Disney's animated classic also make it an unmistakable part of Fantasyland.
For longtime Disneyland visitors, stepping back into those teacups offers a chance to revisit an experience they may remember from childhood.

More Disneyland Closures Are Affecting Guests
Although Mad Tea Party is nearing its return, Disneyland Resort continues working on other attractions.
Indiana Jones Adventure has remained closed since September 8, and Disney hasn't confirmed when the Adventureland attraction will reopen.
Another refurbishment is scheduled to begin on October 30, when “it's a small world” temporarily closes for its holiday transformation.
These projects are part of the regular maintenance required to keep Disneyland's attractions operating.
Older favorites such as Jungle Cruise, Peter Pan's Flight, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, and the Disneyland Railroad also require ongoing attention.
Disney California Adventure follows similar maintenance schedules, including periodic closures of Grizzly River Run.
Refurbishments can involve mechanical work, cosmetic improvements, inspections, and updates that guests might not notice once an attraction reopens.
However, temporary closures can still complicate vacation plans, especially when families have specific rides they want to experience.

Several Disneyland Classics Never Returned
Mad Tea Party's reopening also serves as a reminder that not every historic Disneyland attraction has survived.
Splash Mountain permanently closed in May 2023 after operating since 1989.
Disney replaced the popular log flume with Tiana's Bayou Adventure, which opened in November 2024. The newer attraction draws inspiration from The Princess and the Frog (2009).
Other former favorites have disappeared entirely.
The PeopleMover closed in 1995, although its elevated track remains in Tomorrowland.
Disneyland's Skyway stopped operating in 1994, ending decades of transportation above Fantasyland and Tomorrowland.
Adventure Thru Inner Space closed in 1985 and was eventually replaced by Star Tours.
Disney California Adventure also lost A Bug's Land in 2018 as Disney prepared for Avengers Campus. The former area drew inspiration from A Bug's Life (1998).
Each closure changed the resort's attraction lineup, leaving fewer experiences connected to its earlier decades.

Disneyland Prepares to Welcome Back a Familiar Favorite
Mad Tea Party has remained recognizable for 71 years, even as Disneyland continues evolving around it.
Its scheduled October 16 reopening will bring another original attraction back into operation after several weeks of maintenance.
Disney could still adjust that date, so guests should review the Disneyland app before visiting.
For now, families planning an October trip have another classic Disneyland experience to look forward to.
