Halloween is about to get a little busier for Disney fans.
Disneyland has a packed seasonal calendar ahead, and one of this year’s additions arrives before the main festivities even get underway. Guests will have a new experience waiting for them at the end of September, followed almost immediately by a Halloween twist in early October.
It’s all part of a celebration that will eventually spread across the park, bringing special entertainment, characters, costumes, treats, and several event dates through November 1.
Pete Makes His Shanghai Disneyland Debut
Beginning September 30, Pete will meet guests on Mickey Avenue at Shanghai Disneyland.
Disney revealed his upcoming arrival on Instagram, giving fans advance notice of a character experience that hasn’t previously been part of the park’s lineup.
The character has a long history with Mickey Mouse and his friends, although he hasn’t exactly been known for his good behavior. Pete frequently takes on the role of an antagonist and troublemaker.
His Shanghai Disneyland story takes a somewhat different approach.
This version of Pete is attempting to leave some of that behavior behind and act more like a gentleman. His mischievous side hasn’t completely disappeared, but guests will get to see a different take on him when the meet-and-greet starts.
That version won’t stick around for very long.
Four Days Later, Halloween Takes Over
Pete’s standard meet-and-greet will run from September 30 through October 3. Once October 4 arrives, his appearance will receive a Halloween makeover.
He’ll remain on Mickey Avenue, but guests meeting him from October 4 through November 1 will find him dressed in a seasonal costume instead.
His first day in the Halloween look will also take him beyond his regular greeting location.
Pete will join the Disney Halloween Time costume showcase on October 4, with appearances planned during all three performances that day.
The timing puts his debut right alongside Shanghai Disneyland’s broader Halloween plans, which extend well beyond a single character experience.
Donald and the Villains Join the Celebration
Donald's Halloween Treat Cavalcade will return, bringing Donald Duck and Daisy Duck into the middle of the seasonal action.
They won’t be alone.
Several Disney Villains will participate in the cavalcade as it travels through Shanghai Disneyland. Disney will also give some park visitors a chance to take part in the festivities rather than simply watch from the sidelines.
Guests who show up in especially creative Halloween costumes could be selected to participate with Donald and Daisy.
Elsewhere in the park, Zootopia will put its own spin on the season.
Judy, Nick, and other characters will take part in the festivities. Guests can also catch daily Mark Howling sessions lasting around 10 minutes and purchase seasonal Blue Howling Drinks while visiting the land.
October will eventually bring an even larger expansion of the Halloween schedule.
Spook-tacular Days Expand to 10 Dates
Shanghai Disneyland’s Halloween Spook-tacular Days will take place across three stretches this year: October 16-18, October 23-25, and October 29-November 1.
Together, those dates give guests 10 days to experience the expanded festivities.
Five Party Zones will be available around the park during the event, creating several areas where guests can dance and join the celebration.
Other experiences will send visitors to different corners of Shanghai Disneyland.
The Alice in Wonderland Maze will feature surprise character encounters, while Festival Forest will host Donald's Halloween Treat Party. Guests can also find trick-or-treating opportunities around the resort.
And, naturally, Disney’s villains will get another chance to take center stage.
Enchanted Storybook Castle Gets a Villainous Addition
The Disney Villains Castle Celebration will bring a seasonal performance to the area around Enchanted Storybook Castle.
That offering joins an October schedule already filled with character experiences and Halloween entertainment, giving guests several reasons to explore beyond Shanghai Disneyland’s everyday lineup.
For longtime Disney fans, though, one of the most notable additions happens before all of those Spook-tacular Days arrive.
Pete starts meeting guests on September 30, and changes into his Halloween look on October 4. From there, his seasonal appearances continue through November 1.
After spending so much of his Disney history making life difficult for Mickey and his friends, Pete is getting a different kind of attention this fall.
This time, guests will be lining up specifically to see him.
