Universal Pulls the Plug on Entire Halloween Horror Nights Experience

One Halloween Horror Nights experience abruptly disappeared before the night was over.

Halloween Horror Nights 35 is currently underway at Universal Studios Florida, transforming the park into Universal Orlando Resort’s flagship Halloween event on select nights through November 1.

This year’s event features 10 haunted houses, four scare zones, two live shows, themed food and merchandise, and select attractions. Houses include Sinners (arguably the most-hyped HHN house of the year), Stranger Things 5, Hellraiser, Evil Dead Burn, and Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness.

Guests can also encounter FORTNITEMARES and Downtown Clowntown (featuring the Killer Klowns from Outer Space) in the streets, while the entertainment lineup includes Stranger Things: Return to Hawkins and the latest installment of Universal’s long running Nightmare Fuel series.

On September 11, however, one of those shows was abruptly shut down.

Universal Cancels Nightmare Fuel for the Rest of the Night

Universal canceled every remaining performance of Nightmare Fuel: Blood Noir at Halloween Horror Nights on Friday evening.

A notice issued through the Universal Orlando Resort app confirmed that the production had been pulled from the remainder of the night’s schedule.

“Nightmare Fuel: Blood Noir has been canceled for the remainder of the evening,” the notice read. “We encourage you to visit one of our other attractions or shows at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

Universal did not explain why the performances were canceled.

Guests subsequently reported unusual activity around the show’s theater, including emergency vehicles and medics. Some said they saw an ambulance and fire truck near the attraction.

Those reports have not been confirmed by Universal Orlando Resort.

Rumors have since circulated suggesting either a medical emergency involving a performer or a mechanical problem. Neither explanation has been verified, and Universal has not publicly commented on the circumstances surrounding the cancellation.

One guest on Reddit described being admitted for the 9:30 p.m. performance before noticing activity among Universal team members.

“They loaded us in for the 9:30 show and all seemed normal, but we did see team members in the front start running to the back near the start,” one guest wrote. “Not surprised they canceled the rest tbh, but I hope it isn’t bad.”

The cancellation meant guests attending Friday’s HHN lost access to one of only two live shows currently advertised for the event.

Nightmare Fuel Has Become an HHN Staple

Nightmare Fuel: Blood Noir combines aerial performances, parkour, dancing, illusions, fire effects, and other stunts inside the former Fear Factor Live theater near Men in Black: Alien Attack.

Universal describes the 2026 production as a dark musical journey through a vampire-ridden metropolis, with performers facing temptation while carrying out death-defying stunts.

It is also the sixth incarnation of Nightmare Fuel at Halloween Horror Nights.

The show first debuted in 2021 and has returned in different forms in the years since. Recent versions include Nightmare Fuel: Nocturnal Circus in 2024 and Nightmare Fuel: Circus of Decay in 2025.

Last year’s production similarly centered on aerial performers, pyrotechnics, and illusions, while Blood Noir replaces the circus setting with a darker vampire-themed storyline.

Its sudden disappearance on Friday, therefore, removed an established part of the Halloween Horror Nights entertainment lineup rather than a smaller one-off attraction.

Universal’s official HHN 35 lineup still lists Nightmare Fuel: Blood Noir as one of the event’s live shows. The company has not announced that the attraction has been permanently removed from Halloween Horror Nights.

Instead, Friday’s message specifically stated that performances were canceled “for the remainder of the evening.”

It remains unclear whether the circumstances behind the shutdown will affect subsequent performances.
