Disneyland Departs California, Starts New Chapter in Texas

Disneyland Resort is heading east of California—but not in the way you might expect. Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse recently made a surprise visit to Texas, bringing some of the Disneyland70 magic with them in celebration of the park’s 70th anniversary.

The 70th-anniversary celebration officially kicked off at Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park on May 16, well ahead of the resort’s July 17 birthday. The months-long event features new and returning shows, exclusive merchandise, and limited-time food and drink offerings across both parks.

Disneyland Park guests can catch the fan-favorite Paint the Night parade, the “Celebrate Happy Cavalcade” featuring Duffy and ShellieMay, and the “Wondrous Journeys” fireworks spectacular. Disney California Adventure Park also rolled out the interactive “World of Color Happiness” nighttime show and Disneyland70 updates to Toy Story Midway Mania!, along with the daytime “Better Together: A Pixar Pals Celebration” parade.

But Disney fans outside of California are also getting a taste of the magic. On Tuesday, Mickey and Minnie Mouse popped up in Dallas, Texas, with a Disneyland70-themed hot air balloon and free Minnie Mouse ears for some lucky visitors. Several influencers were on hand to document the moment. TikTok user @lawsonsmagic captured a video of the surprise appearance:

The Disneyland70 tour doesn’t end in Dallas. According to Rubi, Mickey and Minnie will make a stop in Houston, Texas, though Disney hasn’t confirmed the date or whether more locations are planned.

Even with much of the Disneyland70 festivities already underway, there’s more to come. On July 17, “it’s a small world” will debut a final verse written by the legendary Sherman Brothers, and the Main Street Opera House will premiere “Walt Disney – A Magical Life,” featuring the first-ever Walt Disney audio-animatronic. The new show will rotate with “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln” after its initial run. The full 70th anniversary celebration will continue through summer 2026.
