In a recent unexpected occurrence at Disneyland Paris Resort, a family was reported to have conducted an unauthorized picnic right in front of the iconic Sleeping Beauty Castle. This situation escalated when they produced a large knife to cut a birthday cake for a toddler.

On Reddit, a guest (u/erikthered65) observing the scene described the family as an “extended group” of approximately 15 adults. “Big ass knife” aside, security cast members were called to remove the guests from an active walkway:

“An extended family in Paris [put] out a big blanket and picnic and big cake out for their little kids birthday party on the walkway up to the castle.

One of those family birthdays where there aren’t other kids…just this toddler and about 15 adults. Cast members and security already trying to get them moved when we saw it.

Most surprising was the big ass knife they had the cake. Not sure how the scanners missed that.”

Even though the family was just trying to cut a birthday cake, the knife’s presence was particularly jarring given the Disney park‘s strictly enforced safety protocols. How could a large knife evade detection during the routine security screenings that all guests are subjected to upon entering Disneyland Park, Walt Disney Studios Park (soon to be Disney Adventure World), and Disney Village?

A similar scenario occurred earlier in 2023 at the same Disneyland Paris location, where guests were also seen cutting a cake with an unauthorized knife. Such repeated incidents highlight potential gaps in the park’s security policies, raising concerns about guest safety and the enforcement of regulations designed to prevent dangerous items from entering the park.

Rules and Regulations at the Park

Disneyland Paris maintains a comprehensive list of items that guests are prohibited from bringing into the park. The rules explicitly state that dangerous objects, including knives, are strictly forbidden. Guests are also cautioned against bringing any items that could disturb other visitors, ensuring a family-friendly environment:

  • All illicit or hazardous substances, alcoholic beverages, glass bottles, dangerous objects (particularly any offensive or defensive weapons of any type) or objects that appear to be weapons or toy guns (also including toy blasters, squirt guns, etc.), that could endanger visitor security in the Parks, are prohibited.

  • Any items that may disturb other visitors (vuvuzelas, loud speakers, horns).

  • Handheld camera/cell phone extension poles, such as selfie sticks.

  • Any recreational devices such as drones and remote control toys.

  • Any items that we may deem harmful, disruptive or inappropriate.
