A breakdown of Disneyland Resort’s Toy Story Midway Mania! left guests in an unsettling situation when they were instructed to “shoot” after the ride came to a halt. The incident, which took place at Disney California Adventure Park, was shared on TikTok.
Toy Story Midway Mania! is a popular interactive 4-D attraction at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort, where guests compete in a carnival-style game featuring Toy Story (1995) characters. The attraction opened in 2008 in the Paradise Pier (now Pixar Pier) area of Disney California Adventure and has since become a fan-favorite.
During a recent incident, Toy Story Midway Mania! stopped abruptly, leaving guests stuck on board. TikTok user @theskinl0ve shared this video of herself and a friend stuck on the attraction near the loading area, leaving guests stuck while families waiting to board gave them curious stares.
@theskinl0ve when you get stuck on a disney ride….with your bestie…facing the crowd. why do we still have the 3D glasses on?! We sat here for a cute minute too LOL #disneyland #ridebreakdown #disneyrides #californiaadventure #mickey

As the guests waited for assistance, the Toy Story Midway Mania! screens continued to display instructions for the ride, which included the familiar prompt: “Pull the strings to shoot.” However, with the ride down, the guests were unable to interact with the attraction in the usual way.
“Do you want to tell the people what’s happening?” one of the Disney Park guests asked.
“Uh, nothing is happening, as you can see,” the other replied. “I should be shooting!”
The guests were stuck in place, fiddling with the prop guns attached to their ride seats. While the instructions on the screen were still visible, there was no way to engage with the game’s interactive elements. Despite the awkwardness of the situation, they had no choice but to wait for help while remaining in their seats and holding the prop guns.
Disneyland Resort rarely comments on brief ride closures, and this incident was no exception. The length of the breakdown or whether any guests needed evacuation remains unclear. However, Toy Story Midway Mania! eventually resumed normal operations, and it is now running as usual.
If you ever find yourself stuck on a Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney World Resort ride, it’s important to stay seated and follow the instructions from Disney cast members. They are trained to handle these situations and will safely restart or evacuate the attraction if necessary.
