Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort opened at Walt Disney World on August 1, 1997 and is located in the “Animal Kingdom” Resort Area. The unique theme is American Colonial Spanish and Southwestern American. It is considered a moderate resort including a magnificent convention center, special suites, a formal dinner restaurant, gift shop, guest laundry, fun-filled arcade, large family-friendly swimming pool with a fantastic water slide, three quiet pools, a salon, fitness center, and a dance club. Currently, Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort is undergoing a historic expansion that will include a 15-story tower, “Gran Destino, which will add to its existing 1917 guest rooms, 545 rooms, including 50 new suites, a stunning new rooftop restaurant, “Toledo-Tapas Steak & Seafood”, a casual dining restaurant, “Three Bridges Bar & Grill”, and in the lower lobby of the Tower, the “Barcelona Lounge”. With all these exciting changes, Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort is getting ready to welcome Disney guests to the reawakening of this iconic Resort. Here are some exciting and new reasons why you’re gonna love this resort.
1. The Coronado Springs’ Convention Center
This is the largest convention center on Walt Disney World property, featuring 220,000-square-foot meeting space, and two beautiful grand ballrooms, the “Coronado Ballroom” which is the largest ballroom in the southeastern United States, the “Fiesta Ballroom”, as well as the 86,000-square-foot “Vera Cruz Exhibition Hall”. This phenomenal convention center has been designated as being the premier single-level hotel convention facility on the east coast and is one of the largest single-level hotel convention centers in the Southeast.
2. New and Improved Accommodations
All guest rooms have been updated with wood floors, new beds, USB ports, flat screen TV’s, new fixtures, furnishings, lighting, Keurig in-room coffee machines, new art, new color schemes, and the complete renovation of the bathrooms.
3. The new 15-story “Gran Destino Tower”
Once it’s completed, the “Gran Destino Tower” will be the main entrance for Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort and will add 545 guest rooms (including 50 luxurious suites) as well as a gorgeous two-story lobby. Another addition to this magnificent tower is the rooftop table service restaurant, “Toldeo-Tapas Steak & Seafood” with its delicious gourmet menu and an absolutely glorious view of Walt Disney World.
4. New Dining Options
There are two new restaurants coming to this resort, in addition to the fantastic dining opportunities already there.
Toledo – Tapas, Steak & Seafood—Located in the “Gran Destino Tower”, this beautifully themed rooftop restaurant offers fine dining with a unique gourmet menu featuring tapas (appetizers), succulent steaks, fresh seafood, all with the flavors of Spain. Dine in this gorgeous restaurant while enjoying an amazing view of Walt Disney World, especially the nightly fireworks display.
Three Bridges Bar & Grill—Located on a small island, “Villa del Lago” on lake Lago Dorado, this unique restaurant is reminiscent of a bygone era when dreamers, adventurers, and explorers would gather to exchange stories of their extraordinary travels and discoveries. This casual dining restaurant gets its name from the fact that three bridges connect “Three Bridges Bar & Grill” to different areas of the Resort.
The menu offers shareable bites, as well as savory entrees and a wide range of specialty cocktails and sangria pitchers to share with friends. Dining here is a great way to relax and enjoy the view of the lake, while enjoying the delicious food and refreshments.
5. Amenities
The amenities at the Coronado Springs Resort are numerous. Some of the more common features are: (Magical Express, which offers free motor coach from airport to Resort), free bus transportation from Resort to theme parks, water parks, other Resorts, and Disney Springs, free Wi-Fi, Resort and Airline check-in, ATM, banking services, business center, childcare, laundry and dry cleaning services, mail services, merchandise delivery and pickup services, Resort Concierge, La Vida Health Club, and personalized vacation-planning support for guests who book Private Disney VIP tours.
6. Entertainment and Recreation
Enjoy a watery adventure at the “Lost City of Cibola” pool, a family-friendly pool with a Mayan ruins theme. The stunning centerpiece is 50-foot pyramid with a waterfall flowing down the stone steps and just around the corner is a 123-foot waterslide featuring a spitting Jaguar
spirit animal. There are also three leisure pools for a more relaxing atmosphere. Other family-friendly activities include roasting marshmallows around a campfire, movies under the stars, a volley ball area, jogging trail, an archaeologically themed playground, and for the child in all of us, the Iguana Arcade. Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort’s transformation will surprise those guests who have stayed there previously and will thrill new guests who will be visiting for the first time. The new “Gran Destino” Tower, new restaurants, renovated rooms, and all the new amenities will make a stay there an exciting adventure for families and groups. If you’re staying there as part of a group attending meetings at the impressive convention center, you will not only enjoy the beauty and immensity, but also the friendliness of the Disney Resort Staff. There are convention centers all over the world, but those associated with a Disney Resort will have the same Disney philosophy that focuses on smiling, answering questions, and serving up a heaping helping of “Disney Magic”. The same goes for the Resort Cast members. If you’re staying at another Disney Resort, I’d recommend that you drive to or catch a bus to the new and improved Coronado Springs Resort and check it out.
