A Difficult Month for Disney Resort Guests
This latest report follows a series of guest deaths that occurred throughout October, marking a devastating few weeks for Walt Disney World Resort.

On October 14, rumors circulated about an accident involving a Disney Monorail near Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Guests were temporarily cleared from a section of the lobby as emergency crews arrived. Later, authorities clarified that no Monorail collision had occurred and identified the victim as 31-year-old Summer Equitz, who died by suicide after falling from a balcony. Family members reportedly said that Equitz was a Disney superfan who had recently been reported missing in Central Florida.
A week later, on October 21, another death occurred at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campgrounds. Emergency responders were dispatched following a “person down” report. Authorities later confirmed that a man in his 60s died of natural causes after suffering a medical episode while staying at the Disney Resort hotel.

Then, on October 23, guests at Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort reported a heavy police and emergency response after discovering a large white tent and crime scene tape near the pool area. Disney cast members reportedly went door-to-door, asking guests not to look out from their balconies as the investigation unfolded.
Days later, officials confirmed that 28-year-old Matthew Cohn died after falling from a balcony on the 12th floor of Bay Lake Tower. The medical examiner’s report determined the cause of death as “multiple traumatic injuries” and ruled the incident a suicide.
