A familiar checkout counter has disappeared from Disney's Hollywood Studios, as Walt Disney World Resort continues an ongoing refurbishment of the connected Darkroom and Celebrity 5 & 10 merchandise locations along Hollywood Boulevard.
An Ongoing Refurbishment Continues
Walt Disney World Resort has spent the summer gradually updating both The Darkroom and Celebrity 5 & 10, two connected gift shops at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Disney Fanatic previously reported that one of two missing checkout registers had returned to The Darkroom after vanishing earlier this year — though the second register has yet to reappear.
That mystery may now have an answer, as new developments suggest the second counter may not be coming back at all.
New Flooring Replaces Old Checkout Area
WDWNT reported on September 13 that Walt Disney World Resort had installed new flooring throughout the Celebrity 5 & 10 side of the shop, the very location where the missing cash register once stood. With the new flooring in place, all traces of the former checkout area have vanished entirely.
The updated flooring features large beige, black, green, and blue tiles arranged in a square pattern, replacing the previous gray, black, and rust-colored design that had incorporated a triangle-and-diamond motif. In place of the old register, guests will now find a golden outlet cover installed on the floor — a detail suggesting the permanent checkout counter likely won't return, though Disney could still opt to bring in a temporary cashout station during the holidays or other high-traffic periods.
Shopping Continues as Normal
Despite the ongoing changes, both The Darkroom and Celebrity 5 & 10 remain open and fully operational, continuing to sell Disney Trading Pins, housewares, Mickey and Minnie Mouse ears, and other Disney Parks merchandise.
Walt Disney World Resort has not issued any public comment on this refurbishment, consistent with the company's typical approach of staying quiet on projects that don't force closures or significantly disrupt the guest experience.
