It’s official: Dolly Parton’s Dollywood is better than both Disney World and Disneyland.
Founded in 1986, Dollywood has spent decades entertaining guests in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
Co-founded by country music icon Dolly Parton – who partnered with Herschend Family Entertainment to transform a regional attraction into one of America’s most beloved theme parks – the park is deeply tied to her Appalachian roots, reflecting Parton’s personal values, musical legacy, and commitment to family-friendly fun.
As Parton recently reflected while opening up about Dollywood to Fox News, she feels extremely “blessed.”
Dollywood Tops Global Theme Park Rankings
Dollywood is celebrating its 40th season with a string of prestigious honors, continuing its reign as one of the most celebrated theme parks in the world. The National Amusement Park Historical Association (NAPHA) has named Dollywood America’s favorite theme park for 2025—beating out Disneyland in California—for the third year in a row. Last year, Dollywood topped Disney World in Florida.
The NAPHA accolade is especially meaningful given its membership. These seasoned enthusiasts have visited an average of 130 different parks globally, with most visiting at least 13 parks in 2024 alone.
Dollywood also placed second in NAPHA’s list of most beautiful amusement parks, just behind Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia. The recognition highlights the park’s carefully maintained grounds and immersive Smoky Mountain setting.
A Trophy Case That Keeps Growing
Dollywood’s 2025 awards extend far beyond guest rankings. The park dominated multiple Newsweek Readers’ Choice Awards, especially in the restaurant category. It was also included in Newsweek’s list of America’s Greatest Workplaces in the entertainment providers category—one of only three theme parks to receive the honor.
Dollywood’s commitment to its staff was spotlighted in a news release from Susan Loveday, Vice President of Human Resources. “Dollywood’s hosts are what make this park special,” she said. “We always strive to ensure they receive the care and support they deserve so they can take care of our guests in a world-class way.”
Loveday added that while Dollywood has received many accolades for its guest experience, every award begins with a team of employees who love their workplace and are ready to provide exceptional hospitality.
In addition to Newsweek recognition, Dollywood has earned top marks on USA TODAY 10BEST lists, Forbes’ List of America’s Best Midsize Employers, USA Today’s Top Workplaces, and Newsweek’s Greatest Workplaces for Women and America’s Greatest Workplaces for Gen Z.
With more than 50 rides and attractions across 165 acres, Dollywood continues to stand out in a competitive industry, and has even kicked off over 100 changes and upgrades to mark its 40th season. Whether it’s thrilling roller coasters, award-winning entertainment, or an employee culture rooted in kindness, the park shows no signs of slowing down.
