Don’t Be Fooled — These 3 “Chill” Disney Rides Are Now the Most Packed

When you think of “can’t-miss” rides at Disney World, your mind probably jumps to Space Mountain, Flight of Passage, or TRON Lightcycle / Run — the ones with thrill, hype, and those massive wait times we’ve all learned to work around. But here’s the thing: summer has changed the game.

Forget what you think you know about what’s popular in the parks. There’s a new trend forming, and it’s all about staying cool. Guests aren’t just running to the thrill rides anymore — they’re chasing the splash.

We’re talking about three rides in particular that have quietly become some of the busiest spots in Disney World this summer.

Why These Rides Are Suddenly So Popular

Blame it on the heat. Florida in the summer is no joke, and with temperatures soaring and humidity thick in the air, guests are gravitating toward attractions that offer a break from the sun. It’s not about thrill anymore — it’s about relief.

And that’s why Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Frozen Ever After, and Kali River Rapids are now seeing wait times that rival the park’s biggest names. Whether you want a refreshing splash, a cool indoor boat ride, or a full-on soak, these rides are delivering exactly what guests are craving — and word has gotten out.

Lightning Lane Could Be Your Best Friend

So how do you avoid getting caught off guard by these crowd surges? Two words: Lightning Lane.

If you’re staying at a Disney Resort, you get the golden advantage of booking up to seven days in advance. Non-resort guests can start three days out. Either way, those early morning slots (especially for Tiana’s and Frozen) are going fast — so be ready at 7 a.m. sharp.

Pro tip: prioritize the big three first (yes, these three), then watch for rolling availability in the app as you use each one. It’s one of the most effective ways to cut down your wait time — and your sweat level.

Other Ways to Beat the Summer Crowds

Even without Lightning Lane, you’ve got options. If you can rope drop, great — just know you’ll be joining a sea of other guests with the same idea. After Hours events are also worth it if you’re up for a late night with lighter crowds and cooler temps.

Another underrated strategy? Midday breaks. Head back to your hotel during peak sun hours and return refreshed in the evening. Bonus: you’ll often find slightly shorter lines around dinner or fireworks time.

And finally, don’t fear the rain. Quick afternoon showers can clear out queues — if you’ve got a poncho, hit Kali River Rapids and enjoy having the ride almost to yourself.

Andrew Boardwine

A frequent visitor of Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort, Andrew will likely be found freefalling on Twilight Zone Tower of Terror or enjoying Pirates of the Caribbean. Over at Universal, he'll be taking in the thrills of the Jurassic World Velocicoaster and Revenge of the Mummy
