Spring break is coming—and it’s bringing an unprecedented wave of travelers to Orlando International Airport (MCO). With 7.4 million passengers expected between February 22 and April 6, the airport is gearing up for what could be one of the busiest travel seasons in its history. If you’re flying into Orlando for a theme park getaway or a beachside vacation, be prepared for massive crowds, long lines, and some strategic planning to make your journey as smooth as possible.

Orlando’s allure is undeniable. From Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort to its beautiful weather and nearby beaches, the city is a spring break hotspot. But this year, the influx of visitors will hit record highs—and MCO has pinpointed the busiest days.
The Heaviest Travel Days at MCO

If you’re planning to fly through MCO this spring, these are the days you’ll want to prepare for:
- Saturday, March 15 – 197,761 passengers
- Sunday, March 16 – 195,959 passengers
- Saturday, March 29 – 193,908 passengers
- Saturday, March 22 – 193,135 passengers
- Saturday, March 8 – 192,853 passengers
These numbers are staggering—and they mean the airport will be operating at near-maximum capacity. Expect packed security lines, limited parking availability, and crowded terminal spaces.
Fly MCO took to social media to share the news, “BUSYYYYYYYY and more than 7.4 million travelers will be passing through MCO during this 44-day travel period. Top busiest days:

Why Disney and Universal Will Be Packed, Too
This surge at MCO means Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando will be just as busy. With families flocking to the parks for their spring vacations, expect long waits for attractions and high demand for park reservations (if you’re an Annual Passholder), and Lightning Lane Multi Pass selections.
Universal’s thrill rides, like VelociCoaster and Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure, will likely see wait times well over two hours on peak days.
If you’re planning a theme park visit, book everything you can in advance—park tickets, dining reservations, and even parking spots.
How to Survive the Spring Break Rush at MCO

To help travelers navigate this hectic season, MCO recommends following the “3 P’s”:
- Pack Smart: Travel with carry-ons if possible and double-check TSA rules to avoid last-minute delays.
- Park Strategically: Reserve your parking spot early through MCO’s online reservation system—parking lots will fill up fast.
- Plane Prep: Arrive at least three hours early for domestic flights and four hours early for international travel to ensure enough time for security and boarding.
MCO also offers tools like the MCO Reserve Program, which lets passengers schedule a time slot for TSA screening, and the MCO Mobile App, which provides real-time flight updates, security wait times, and terminal navigation.
Chaos in the Skies: MCO’s Recent Flight Grounding
As MCO gears up for record-breaking spring break traffic, it’s still recovering from a recent and unexpected air travel disruption. On a Thursday evening, a SpaceX Starship rocket launched from Boca Chica, Texas, but the mission ended in disaster when the rocket disintegrated mid-flight.
The resulting debris forced the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to implement a ground stop at multiple Florida airports, including MCO. From 7:30 p.m., flights were temporarily halted while the FAA monitored falling debris. Though MCO’s ground stop lasted only 15 minutes, the ripple effects caused widespread delays.
Airports like Miami International (MIA) and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) reported flight hold-ups of 30 minutes or more, with some delays stretching late into the night.
SpaceX later confirmed that the rocket suffered a “rapid unscheduled disassembly” after multiple engine failures, resulting in total loss of control. The FAA has since launched an investigation into the incident.
Get Ready for Record Crowds and Potential Delays

Orlando International Airport is preparing for a spring break season like no other—one defined by massive crowds and the possibility of further disruptions. If you’re flying into MCO for a Disney or Universal vacation, plan ahead. Arrive early, stay informed, and prepare for longer-than-usual wait times across the board.
Orlando is ready for you—but make sure you’re ready for Orlando.
