EPCOT guests have another temporary closure to keep in mind as Disney gets ready for the park's next major event.
A playground and picnic area near World Showcase has been blocked off ahead of the 2026 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival.
The space sits along the rose walk between the Imagination! pavilion and World Showcase. Guests who normally use the area for a break won't be able to access it right now.
Disney hasn't announced exactly how long the closure will last.
There's also no confirmed explanation for what's coming next, but the playground's history provides a strong clue.
Disney Blocks Access to EPCOT Play Area
Rather than putting large construction walls around the playground, Disney has taken a simpler approach.
Potted trees now block the entrances.
There aren't any obvious signs of significant construction taking place beyond them. That could change as the festival gets closer, but the area currently looks more like it's awaiting a transformation than undergoing a major refurbishment.
The playground only dates back to 2025, so this isn't an aging space that needs a massive overhaul.
Instead, Disney has used it as an area that can change alongside EPCOT's different festivals.
That gives the company another place to extend festival theming beyond food booths, merchandise locations and other experiences.
Food & Wine provided a good example last year.
A Familiar Food & Wine Experience Could Return
During the previous EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival, Disney transformed this area into Harvest Hollow.
The nature-inspired concept gave families another festival experience while keeping the playground available for younger guests.
Whether Harvest Hollow returns this year remains unknown.
Disney could bring back the same concept for 2026, possibly with some adjustments. The company could also create a new theme specifically for this year's event.
There isn't enough happening inside the closed area yet to reveal the answer.
The WALL-E playground elsewhere at EPCOT could potentially get a different look as well. A retheme is possible, although nothing has been confirmed for that space.
Those questions should begin getting answers soon.
EPCOT's Next Festival Is Almost Here
Disney is quickly approaching the start of the 2026 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival.
Opening day is August 27, and the festival will continue through November 21.
Guests will once again find Global Marketplaces around EPCOT, but Disney has more planned beyond food and drinks.
Remy's Hide & Squeak and Emile's Fromage Montage are both included in this year's lineup. Pluto's Pumpkin Pursuit will also be part of the event.
One new addition is an interactive cheese exhibit.
Disney has also started previewing merchandise for this year's festival, giving guests an early idea of what they'll find once the event begins.
The playground could eventually become another piece of the overall Food & Wine experience.
For now, however, families visiting EPCOT should expect the area along the rose walk to remain unavailable.
More Changes Could Appear Before August 27
With the festival now just weeks away, this probably won't be the last sign of preparations around EPCOT.
Disney still has time to dress different areas, prepare festival locations and get everything ready for opening day.
The closed playground provides an early example of that transition.
It's also worth remembering that this doesn't appear to be a permanent closure. The area was designed to receive different festival decorations, and its transformation into Harvest Hollow last year showed how Disney can repurpose the space.
The bigger question is what guests will find when it reopens.
Harvest Hollow could make its return. A different Food & Wine theme could take over instead.
Until Disney reveals more or visible changes begin appearing inside the area, that part remains a mystery.
For now, guests visiting EPCOT before August 27 should plan on one less playground and picnic area being available as Disney prepares the park for Food & Wine.
