EPCOT is known for change. It’s the kind of park where you can start your day rocketing through space and end it sipping wine in the France Pavilion. Over the decades, it’s been in a constant state of reinvention, blending futuristic ideas with cultural charm.
But lately, not all changes have been inspiring. Guests have spotted something so damaged and neglected that it’s sparking heated conversations online. It’s a large, unmistakable piece of the park’s personality — and Disney doesn’t seem in a hurry to fix it.
Instead, it’s sitting in plain view, slowly worsening, leaving fans wondering if attention to detail is slipping away.

EPCOT’s Good News Side
To be fair, EPCOT isn’t only making bad moves. Some of the park’s recent updates have been met with genuine excitement.
“Magic between festivals” is making a comeback, bringing more year-round entertainment and touches of décor so the park feels alive even when no major event is happening. Test Track also got a refresh this summer, recently reopening on July 22. Its new design blends retro influences with modern tech. The latest update takes inspiration from World of Motion and even features a new soundtrack.
And there are still headliners keeping crowds happy. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind has become one of the most popular coasters Disney has ever built, and Frozen Ever After remains a must-do in World Showcase. These are proof that EPCOT can adapt while keeping its sense of fun.

Some Serious Damage
Here’s the problem everyone’s talking about — the park’s famous ground lighting system. Once a signature part of EPCOT’s nighttime atmosphere, these glowing walkways have become an eyesore.
The lenses are cracked and chipped, concrete sections are damaged, and some parts are loose enough to pose safety risks. To keep things usable, Disney has been swapping out screws and trying different hardware, but with constant foot traffic and Florida weather, the repairs just don’t hold.
Instead of replacing the system entirely, the company seems to be relying on quick patches, which fans are calling a “band-aid” solution.

Why Fans Are Losing Patience
For longtime visitors, the frustration isn’t just about the damage. It’s about what it represents. Disney used to have a reputation for flawless upkeep, where every detail — no matter how small — mattered. Some feel the focus has shifted to big, marketable attractions rather than preserving the legacy details that make the parks unique.
And in EPCOT, those little touches are part of the magic. Letting them fall apart feels like losing part of the park’s soul.

Why It Matters
Ground lighting might seem small, but it’s part of EPCOT’s identity. Walking through a softly glowing pathway at night is one of those moments that sets it apart from any other theme park.
Leaving it damaged sends the wrong message — especially to guests spending thousands on their vacations.
This is also a major safety hazard. For some reason, Disney doesn't seem to be all that concerned about the desires or well-being of its guests regarding these ground lights.
A Real Solution
Most fans agree: it’s time for Disney to replace the lighting rather than patch it. Whether restored to its original look or redesigned for the future, it deserves to shine again.
Because in a park built on futuristic dreams, watching a piece of the past crumble underfoot is a sight no one wants to see.
