Rumors Heat Up About ‘Coco’ Replacing EPCOT Ride

Rumors have been floating around for years, but they’re picking up steam again: Coco could finally be making its way into Walt Disney World in a big way. And this time, the whispers point directly at EPCOT’s Gran Fiesta Tour in the Mexico Pavilion.

While Disney hasn’t officially confirmed anything, fans can’t help but imagine how magical a boat ride through the Land of the Dead would be, especially as EPCOT wraps up its latest round of construction.

Gran Fiesta Tour’s Future Feels Uncertain

Let’s be honest—Gran Fiesta Tour is charming but doesn’t pack the same punch as other EPCOT attractions. The ride has been a staple since 2007, featuring Donald Duck and the Three Caballeros. However, some guests feel it doesn’t match the cultural depth you find elsewhere in World Showcase.

That’s where Coco comes in. The film captures Mexican traditions, family bonds, and Día de los Muertos with heart and authenticity. Fans have long believed it would be a perfect fit—and with the existing boat ride system already in place, the transition could be smoother than most attraction overhauls.

Disney World Is Evolving Fast

Every park across Walt Disney World is seeing changes. Magic Kingdom is preparing for a new Pirates of the Caribbean tavern and continues to tease its massive Villains Land expansion. Over at Animal Kingdom, Disney is planning an overhaul of DINOLAND U.S.A., with Encanto and Indiana Jones taking center stage. And Hollywood Studios? There’s heavy buzz about the Monsters, Inc. addition.

With Test Track’s reimagining opening at the end of July, it seems EPCOT could be gearing up for its next transformation. A Coco ride would keep the momentum going.

A Ride Full of Heart (and Music)

If the change does happen, imagine boarding a boat that floats past glowing marigold bridges, musical skeletons, and scenes straight out of the Land of the Dead. Miguel, Héctor, and possibly even Dante could guide you through a retelling of the story, ending with a heartwarming rendition of “Remember Me.”

Keeping the existing infrastructure of Gran Fiesta Tour—like the ride track and boats—would make this an easier project to green light and complete without years of downtime.

Will Disney Make the Move?

Nothing’s confirmed, but this one feels like a no-brainer if Disney is looking for its next EPCOT update. Coco has a passionate fanbase and a story rooted in the very culture the Mexico Pavilion aims to honor.

Until then, fans will keep their ears open, their hopes high, and maybe take one more ride with Donald—just in case it’s the last.
