EPCOT Walls off Mexico and Norway Pavilions, Guests Left Stranded

EPCOT guests were recently taken aback by the sudden appearance of construction walls between the Mexico and Norway World Showcase Pavilions. The walls, which went up without prior notice, are part of an ongoing construction project, though Walt Disney World Resort has yet to reveal the full details of the work being done.

According to WDWNT, the beige construction walls are positioned near Donald Duck’s meet-and-greet in the Mexico Pavilion, extending all the way to Anna and Elsa’s Royal Sommerhus in Norway. The walls are accompanied by green scrim, which obstructs parts of the walkway, some greenery, and tables and chairs that are usually available for guests looking to take a rest.

As is typical with construction zones around the parks, the walls are decorated with PPG Paints-branded signs featuring various quotes and images inspired by Disney and Pixar characters. One sign reads, “In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun,” inspired by the film Mary Poppins (1964), while another features a silhouette of Remy from Ratatouille (2007), with the words, “Change is nature.”

This unexpected disruption comes just weeks after the Mexico Pavilion’s Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros opened from a refurbishment. Guests hoping to visit these pavilions may find their experience altered due to the construction barriers, which block certain areas and could disrupt the flow of foot traffic between the popular attractions. However, Disney has yet to clarify if the current construction in the Mexico and Norway EPCOT World Showcase Pavilions is part of a larger overhaul or an isolated project.

Over on the other side of the EPCOT World Showcase, the Canada Pavilion has been under construction since mid-2023, with scaffolding and walls surrounding several guest areas. After nearly two years of mysterious construction, Walt Disney World Resort finally announced that it is building a Disney Vacation Club (DVC) lounge called Château de Voyage.

Will the same type of transformation come to the Mexico and Norway pavilions? Only time will tell.
