Chaos briefly struck EPCOT last week when an emergency alert forced Walt Disney World Resort guests to evacuate The Land Pavilion. A burst ceiling leak sent water pouring into the pavilion, prompting a swift response from Disney cast members and maintenance teams.
On January 3, 2025, guests in EPCOT’s The Land Pavilion were greeted with an unexpected mess. A sewage leak from a second-floor bathroom caused water to gush through the ceiling, soaking the ground floor near the entrance to Soarin’ Around the World.
The emergency alert quickly closed Soarin’ Around the World and the bathrooms in The Land Pavilion as Disney cast members worked to manage the situation. Instagram user @orlandoparksguy captured the aftermath in a video showing water spilling from the ceiling while crowds moved out of the area.
“Water suddenly pouring out of the ceiling at the entrance to Soarin’ in EPCOT. Cast Members quickly closed the attraction and used towels to contain the water. #epcot #waltdisneyworld @tpmvideos #disneyworldnews.”

Living with the Land remained open despite the commotion, allowing some Walt Disney World Resort guests to continue enjoying their visit while others chose to leave the area.
Disney’s maintenance and custodial teams worked overnight to resolve the issue, successfully reopening Soarin’ Around the World and the bathrooms by the following day. However, the incident led some Disney Parks fans to question the state of EPCOT’s The Land Pavilion.
“This entire building is in need of a remodel at this point,” @mtnmoneyman wrote.
“In 2023 that building was leaking water so bad they had to close a section off,” @madistontneely added. “Thinking they might [need] to do repairs.”
Keeping the Magic Alive at EPCOT
The Land Pavilion, a staple of EPCOT since its debut in 1982, is home to fan-favorite attractions like Living with the Land, Soarin’ Around the World, and the Garden Grill restaurant. While such incidents are rare, they highlight the challenges of maintaining older buildings and the importance of quick action to ensure guest safety and satisfaction.
