Evacuating a Walt Disney World Resort ride is a dream for many dedicated Disney Parks fans. There’s nothing like a look behind the scenes or a peek into cast-member-only areas to give a fresh spin on your favorite theme park attraction! Some Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park guests recently had a rare experience evacuating the peak of Expedition Everest, the Disney Park’s iconic roller coaster.
Located in the Asia area of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park between Kali River Rapids and Finding Nemo: The Big Blue…and Beyond!, Expedition Everest takes Disney Park guests on a journey into the Himalayan mountains.
Guests searching for the long-hunted Yeti might get more than they bargained for on this roller coaster-style adventure–one of the few Walt Disney World Resort thrill attractions to go backward!
TikTok user @raisingroamers recently got stuck with her family at the highest point of Expedition Everest. Ironically, the roller coaster stopped when the train approached “torn” tracks, preparing theme park guests to go backward down a thrilling hill.

“We heard announcements saying that our train had come to an unexpected stop,” the Disney Park guest recalled. “[We] then heard an announcement saying the ride would power down and that the staff members would be up to retrieve us shortly.”
The TikToker shared footage of Disney cast members climbing dozens of flights of stairs to help guests exit the roller coaster train and evacuate through the inner part of the mountain structure.
“They had to have us exit one row at a time, and then we had to walk down more than 12 flights of steps to get all the way down to the bottom,” the guest continued.
As they followed the ride track downhill, guests got a rare look at the inside of Mount Everest, which the TikToker described as “weird-looking” and “industrial.”
“Thankfully, the staff members say that this kind of thing doesn’t happen too often, but they definitely have procedures in place for when it does,” the guest explained. “They gave us some water bottles and even some Lightning Lane passes for our unexpected troubles.”
The guests weren’t distraught by the experience–they even returned to ride Expedition Everest when it reopened!
