Before the new Little Mermaid film made its debut in theaters on Memorial Day weekend, actress Halle Bailey was met with a lot of racist hate from audience members — and even though she and Disney proved the “pathetic” racist haters wrong with a staggering amount of success at the box office, Disney fans have just found something new to complain about regarding the live-action interpretation of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale!
Not-So-Shining, Not-So-Shimmering, Not-So-Splendid?
There were plenty of wonderful scenes and surprises in the new Little Mermaid film — with Melissa McCarthy stealing the show as Ursula, Halle Bailey winning over skeptics with her rendition of “Part Of Your World”, and a very special cameo from the original Ariel.
However, one dreamy scene from the original 1989 Little Mermaid movie (which became a classic Disney film and inspired a Dreamworks vendetta) was the scene at the end of the film that features Ariel returning from the sea in a shimmering blue gown!
A Dramatic Dress Is Needed For a Dramatic Scene
Ariel wears the same pale blue dress throughout the new film whenever she is on land (except while getting married), so audiences do not get to see the shimmery blue gown on display.
According to the Youtube video shown above from “LittleChap”, “The Little Mermaid fans are going crazy because Ariel did not happen to be wearing her glittery dress!”
“It’s quite confusing with Disney’s decision to cut out the most important part of the scene,” the video says, and the idea that Ariel would wear the same dress for three days straight with no costume changes “is just unbelievable.”
Pay Up, King Triton
Apparently, some Ariel fans also “thought that King Triton was being a little stingy to Ariel” because he didn’t offer her the show-stopping dress for her dramatic return to land, and not even for her wedding!
Fear not if you’re disappointed, however; Halle Bailey did provide some solace for fans by wearing a similar gown at the film’s premiere earlier this year!
Were you looking forward to seeing the new live-action Ariel in this dress?
