The Dark Knight remains one of the most beloved and complex characters in comic book history. As James Gunn and Peter Safran map out the future of the DC Universe (DCU), all eyes are on The Brave and the Bold, the upcoming Batman reboot that promises to introduce a fresh take on Gotham’s vigilante.
Yet recent developments have left fans questioning how the Caped Crusader will fit into the new DC universe.

The Brave and the Bold is set to explore a new chapter in Batman’s story, focusing on Bruce Wayne’s relationship with his son, Damian Wayne. Directed by Andy Muschietti (2023’s The Flash), the film represents a significant shift in tone for the character.
While Gunn has confirmed that this Batman will exist within the shared DCU alongside David Corenswet’s Superman, the delays surrounding the project have fueled speculation.
In an unexpected twist, Creature Commandos, an animated series on Max, briefly teased a silhouette of Batman in its sixth episode. Fans quickly identified the figure as resembling Ben Affleck’s version from the previous DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
However, Gunn later suggested in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes that this depiction was not indicative of future plans for the character, as the series was written before his tenure at DC Studios.

Meanwhile, Matt Reeves’ The Batman has been delayed, with its sequel now set for 2027. Now, rumors indicate that Robert Pattinson’s portrayal might be integrated into the DCU, which is unsurprising–coupled with the lack of casting announcements and recent delays for The Brave and the Bold, it has left plenty of room for speculation.
Either way, fans can still look forward to Creature Commandos, which is now streaming on Max, and Superman, which arrives in theaters on July 11, 2025.
As for The Brave and the Bold, its release remains unconfirmed, but its potential to redefine Batman for a new generation keeps anticipation high.
