She-Hulk, one of Marvel’s most polarizing Disney+ entries, appears to be losing its place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Disney has updated its Disney+ Marvel Studios banner, replacing She-Hulk with Deadpool, just weeks after recasting the character for a separate project.

The move comes as no surprise given the mixed reception to She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. While some Marvel fans appreciated the show’s unconventional approach, such as frequent fourth-wall breaks and a cameo from Megan Thee Stallion, others criticized its CGI, writing, and focus on female-led storytelling.

Why Did She-Hulk Flop?

Despite its ambition, the series struggled to resonate widely, earning both praise and backlash for its uniqueness from various segments of the fanbase.

Tatiana Maslany, who portrayed Jennifer Walters—a lawyer turned superpowered Hulk after an accident involving Bruce Banner’s blood—brought humor and charisma to the role. Still, despite cameos from beloved Marvel favorites like The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Daredevil (Charlie Cox), the show’s creative risks alienated and couldn’t stave off criticism that led to it being dubbed “soulless garbage” and temporarily earning the worst rating of any MCU show on Rotten Tomatoes (although Secret Invasion and Echo have both since earned even lower scores).

Maslany herself addressed the show’s uncertain future earlier this year, jokingly citing budget constraints as a factor in Disney’s hesitation to greenlight a second season. “I think we blew our budget, and Disney was like, ‘No, thanks,'” she said.

The removal of She-Hulk from Disney+ promotions may signal Disney’s broader pivot toward more commercially successful characters. The banner now features Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds, whose recent film Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) surpassed $1 billion at the global box office. The change reflects Marvel Studios’ focus on its most bankable heroes as it navigates the challenges of the Multiverse Saga.

She-Hulk Recast in Upcoming Marvel Project

This shift isn’t the only development hinting at She-Hulk’s diminishing presence in the MCU. In October, Disney recast the character for LEGO Marvel Avengers: Mission Demolition. Tiffani Thiessen, known for Saved by the Bell, took over as She-Hulk’s voice, replacing Laura Post and Maslany, who had previously voiced the character in LEGO Marvel projects.

While She-Hulk’s removal from key promotional material doesn’t necessarily spell the end for the character, it raises questions about her long-term role in the MCU. Fans remain divided over whether the character deserves another chance, either through a standalone project or appearances in ensemble films.

For now, She-Hulk’s future remains uncertain. Whether Disney reconsiders her place in the ever-expanding MCU or chooses to quietly shelve the character, the decision will undoubtedly reflect Marvel Studios’ evolving priorities in an era where audience preferences are increasingly unpredictable.

Would you like to see Tatiana Maslany return as She-Hulk – or do you think the character is better left as a one-off experiment?
