The Alice in Wonderland-inspired aquatic play area abruptly closed on August 12. Unlike several other ongoing construction projects at the Magic Kingdom Resort Area's Deluxe hotels, Walt Disney World Resort never formally acknowledged this refurbishment.
For weeks, the splash pad's slides sat blocked off, and the oversized bucket shaped like the Mad Hatter's hat — which typically fills with water before dumping it on guests below — remained wrapped in plastic. No water flowed through the play area during that time, and Disney's official website for the resort offered no mention of the closure or any refurbishment timeline.
What's Changed as of Late August
An update finally emerged on August 26, when WDWNT reported that the Mad Hatter cap water bucket had been uncovered and freed from its plastic wrapping. Photos shared by the outlet show the current state of the play area, though water still isn't flowing through the splash pad or slides. A construction lift spotted near the site suggests the unannounced project remains unfinished.
The outlet also noted that decorative portraits of Alice, the White Rabbit, and the Mad Hatter — normally displayed throughout the play structure — were resting on the ground nearby, seemingly awaiting reinstallation.

As of publication, the Alice in Wonderland-themed splash pad and play area remains closed, with Walt Disney World Resort still declining to comment on the project or offer any reopening timeline.
