Guests “Hanging on by a Thread” at Pirates of the Caribbean, Evacuation Takes Place

As Disneyland Resort continues to honor 70 magical years since its opening on July 17, 1955, guests are flocking to both parks to enjoy a rich lineup of limited-time entertainment—including the dazzling Wondrous Journeys show on Sleeping Beauty Castle, the fan-favorite Paint the Night parade, and World of Color—Happiness! over at Disney California Adventure Park.

But even during the most magical celebrations, the occasional ride hiccup can offer a behind-the-scenes peek at the parks in action. One such experience came courtesy of TikTok creators Hunter and Anthony (@hunterandanthony_), who found themselves in an unexpected situation aboard the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction.

According to their video, the couple was held at the famous drop during the ride after hearing their boat “scream.” What followed was a rarely seen evacuation process: cast members attached tethers to the boat, and firefighters arrived shortly after to assist. Guests were then escorted safely through a backstage area, giving them a unique view of the attraction from an entirely different perspective.

But their viral Disney moments didn’t stop there. Earlier during their trip, Hunter and Anthony shared another TikTok video—now viewed over 15 million times—capturing a moment inside Peter Pan’s Flight. Due to an unexpected pause in the ride, the pair filmed the experience with the ride fully illuminated, giving fans a rare look at the Fantasyland favorite.

Ride evacuations and downtime are not uncommon at Disney parks, and while they’re handled with safety as the top priority, they can certainly make for an unforgettable experience.

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
