Lights on in Neverland as Stranded Guests Capture Viral Malfunction

As Disneyland Resort gears up to mark its 70th anniversary on July 17, guests are flocking to join the celebration. From spectacular shows like Wondrous Journeys at Sleeping Beauty Castle and World of Color–Happiness! at Disney California Adventure to the new Walt Disney animatronic in A Magical Life on Main Street, U.S.A., there’s something special happening around every corner of the resort.

Yet even with the extra pixie dust in the air, not everything is operating at peak performance. A recent maintenance mishap on Peter Pan’s Flight, one of Disneyland Park’s most cherished attractions, reminded guests that even the classics can occasionally stall mid-adventure.

Originally opening with the park in 1955, Peter Pan’s Flight continues to delight fans of all ages. Aboard a flying pirate ship, guests are transported through the nursery of the Darling children, then high above the rooftops of London, past Big Ben and the sparkling Thames, before journeying into Neverland. In just under three minutes, this dark ride delivers heartwarming scenes including Mermaid Lagoon, Skull Rock, and the showdown between Peter Pan and Captain Hook.

But for a group of riders captured in a viral video, the fantasy faltered. Social media creators Hunter and Anthony (@hunterandanthony) shared footage of the ride with its work lights on and Cast Members inside the show building—an experience rarely seen by guests. The video has quickly racked up over 11 million views and more than 1.3 million likes, driven by the popular Jet2 Holidays sound and a wave of guest commentary recalling their own maintenance moments across various attractions.

An earlier clip by the same creators also shows them halted mid-ride, with their ship stuck in place—a reminder that even magic needs maintenance now and then.

Despite the hiccup, Peter Pan’s Flight continues to be a crowd favorite. Wait times often reach 40 minutes or more, and the attraction remains accessible to nearly all ages. Themed with incredible attention to detail, the queue walks guests through the Darling home before they take off for Neverland. Recent enhancements have included culturally sensitive updates, like reimagining Tiger Lily’s appearance and setting.

It may not offer high-speed thrills, but what it does deliver is a soaring journey filled with nostalgia, whimsy, and iconic Disney storytelling. Early Entry remains one of the best ways to catch this ride before the lines build.

And while the magic may occasionally pause, Disneyland70 is still soaring. So, whether you’ve experienced a lights-on moment or a picture-perfect flight, we want to hear from you—share your stories in the comments!

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
