Hair-Snatching Hysteria Hits Universal’s Epic Universe After New Coaster Debuts Problematic Issue

Move over, VelociCoaster—there’s a new thrill ride in town, and it’s not just turning heads, it’s blowing them off. Universal’s Stardust Racers, the dazzling dual-track racing coaster at the heart of Epic Universe’s Celestial Park, is taking off in more ways than one. Along with its 62 mph launch and comet-like visuals, the ride has sparked a unique social trend: women are removing wigs, ponytails, and hair extensions before strapping in.

TikToker @Erikathefrenchie went viral this week after posting a video showing herself casually pulling off her sleek ponytail just moments before boarding Stardust Racers. The caption? “Not today, gravity.” With over 300,000 views and growing, Erika’s clip has started a larger conversation about wig-wearing guests and high-speed thrill rides.

The Ride That’s Blasting Hairpieces Into Orbit

Stardust Racers is a next-gen coaster experience, combining sleek design with powerful dual launches, sharp inversions, and extended airtime across a 5,000-foot track. Riders board either a yellow or blue comet-themed vehicle and race their opponents through synchronized elements, including an iconic upside-down crisscross that has become a standout visual across social media.

But with all that speed (and airtime), guests are quickly learning: secure your stuff—or say goodbye. Universal already requires all loose items to be stored in lockers equipped with photo verification tech, but even personal hairpieces are proving no match for the forces at play.

A Trend That Tracks

The pre-ride wig removal may be new to Stardust Racers, but it’s not new to thrill ride veterans.

Theme park regulars will remember wigs flying off mid-ride on VelociCoaster, Universal’s Jurassic World-themed coaster just a few parks over at Islands of Adventure. That ride, known for its sheer speed and aggressive airtime hills, has been the source of multiple viral moments where synthetic hair went airborne—some even landing in foliage near the track.

Now, it seems coaster-savvy women are getting ahead of the issue at Epic Universe by planning to ride bald and beautiful.

One Twitter user wrote:

“Me in line for Stardust Racers: lashes off, wig off, ego off. I’m not losing $400 worth of hair over a photo.”

An Epic Experience—Hair or No Hair

Despite the hair hysteria, Stardust Racers has been earning rave reviews for its blend of fun and fearlessness. Unlike other intense coasters that leave guests dizzy or sore, many are praising this ride for being thrilling without the aftershock.

One reviewer wrote:

“I usually hate coasters, but this didn’t make me feel sick or scared—it made me feel like a shooting star.”

At night, the lack of external track lighting makes the vehicles look like actual comets soaring through the dark sky—a surreal effect that only adds to the ride’s already off-the-charts appeal.

Whether you’re holding onto your seat or holding onto your hairline, one thing is clear: Stardust Racers is already iconic. Just maybe leave the 30-inch bundles at home.
