‘Harry Potter’ Attraction Officially Closed in Orlando

The Ministry of Magic land at Epic Universe is down one of its two headline attractions starting today, and if you have a visit planned in the next ten days, this is worth knowing before you arrive.

Le Cirque Arcanus officially entered its temporary closure window on June 21, 2026. The live theatrical spectacular at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic is scheduled to remain unavailable through June 30 before reopening on July 1. Universal has not given a specific reason for the closure. A ten-day window at a live production is the kind of downtime that points toward routine maintenance rather than anything more significant, and the precise July 1 reopening date suggests this was scheduled well in advance.

If Le Cirque Arcanus was the attraction you most wanted to see during an upcoming Epic Universe visit, you have two options. Adjust your trip to arrive on or after July 1, or visit knowing it will not be available and plan your day around what is open.

Here is what you need to know about both situations.

What Is Still Open in Ministry of Magic

The closure affects Le Cirque Arcanus specifically. Everything else in the Ministry of Magic land is operating normally.

Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry remains fully open. The ride takes guests through the British Ministry of Magic via the Métro-Floo from Paris, setting up a story centered on the trial of Dolores Umbridge. It uses large-scale practical sets, advanced animatronics, omnidirectional lift vehicles, and motion simulation across its runtime. It is one of the more technically ambitious attractions Universal has opened in recent years and stands on its own as a reason to visit the land even without the theatrical show available alongside it.

The interactive wand experiences, themed dining, and shops throughout the Ministry of Magic land are unaffected. The land is fully explorable and its immersive wizarding Paris environment remains intact. For guests visiting for the first time, the atmosphere and design of the land are worth experiencing regardless of which specific attractions are running.

What Le Cirque Arcanus Is and Why It Matters

For guests who are not yet familiar with the show, Le Cirque Arcanus is not a ride. It is a live theatrical production that blends performers, puppetry, special effects, and magical creatures inside an environment inspired by the Fantastic Beasts films. The circus setting from those films becomes a full theatrical experience in the hands of Universal's creative team, and the creature and puppetry work in particular have consistently drawn strong reactions from guests who have seen it.

As the only live theatrical offering among the Ministry of Magic land's headline experiences, it plays a different role in the guest day than Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry. Guests who budget time for both in a single visit get a more complete picture of what the land offers. During the closure window, the ride carries the full weight of the land's entertainment programming.

The closure does not make a visit to the Ministry of Magic land not worth taking. It makes it a different visit than what the full lineup provides.

The Broader Epic Universe Closure Picture

Le Cirque Arcanus is joining a list of temporarily unavailable attractions across Universal Orlando Resort that guests should be aware of before planning a visit.

Jurassic Park River Adventure at Islands of Adventure is closed and not scheduled to return until November. Pteranodon Flyers at Islands of Adventure and Po's Kung Fu Training Camp at Universal Studios Florida, including the Po Live! experience, are both targeting July for their reopenings. Universal Orlando's Horror Makeup Show is undergoing a full reimagining at Universal Studios Florida with a winter reopening expected.

On a positive note, MEN IN BLACK Alien Attack at Universal Studios Florida recently reopened with updated effects, so the overall balance across the resort is not entirely in the closure column right now.

The Expansion Situation at Epic Universe

The temporary Le Cirque Arcanus closure is happening during a period of active development at Epic Universe, and the longer-term picture for the park is worth understanding for guests who visit regularly or are planning future trips.

Two significant permit filings have surfaced in recent months. A permit filed at the end of May is believed to be connected to an expansion of Dark Universe. More recently, on June 11, Stantec Architecture filed a permit for a new 71,500 square-foot structure inside Epic Universe, with Universal Orlando and Universal Creative listed as coordinating companies. When the Orlando Business Journal reached out for comment, a Universal spokesperson responded: “We continuously enhance our parks, and permit filings are a routine part of that process. We have no further details to share.”

To put the size in context, The Untrainable Dragon show at Epic Universe covers approximately 70,000 square feet, and Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge spans about 71,000 square feet. The new permit falls in the same range, suggesting something on the scale of a non-marquee attraction or significant theatrical venue.

Where the new structure will be built has not been officially confirmed. Speculation in the theme park community is currently focused on Dark Universe, partly because original concept art for the park included a large amphitheater-type attraction in that land that has not yet materialized.

The Ministry of Magic land has its own considerable expansion potential. Available mapping from the South Florida Water Management District puts approximately 230,000 square feet of expansion space around the Ministry of Magic land, with roughly 196,000 square feet available adjacent to Dark Universe.

None of those future additions change what is available today or during the Le Cirque Arcanus closure window. But for guests thinking about when to plan a return visit to Epic Universe, knowing that meaningful additions appear to be in development is useful context.

Planning Around the Closure

The practical summary is straightforward.

Visits between June 21 and June 30: Le Cirque Arcanus is closed. The Battle at the Ministry, the wand experiences, and the full Ministry of Magic land environment are all available. The visit is worthwhile but missing one of its two headline experiences.

Visits from July 1 onward: Le Cirque Arcanus is expected to reopen. Both headline attractions should be available for the full Ministry of Magic experience.
