Here’s What a Day at Disney World Can Look Like if You Aren’t Prepared

4. MISTAKE: You just bought a brand-new pair of Nikes.

And today is not only your first day in the parks, but your first day wearing your new footwear. And though you bought the right size, this style fits differently from your others, and after only an hour at Hollywood Studios, you’re not only the proud owner of a new pair of kicks, you’re also the not-so-proud owner of two new blisters—one for each ankle. If you head back to your hotel now, you’ll miss your FastPass+ times for Toy Story Mania and Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage. But if you keep walking in these shoes, the discomfort might just make a beast out of you.

SOLUTION: Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes into the parks at Disney. If you plan to purchase new shoes for your trip, do so a few weeks in advance so you can be sure they fit well and so you can break them in before heading to the parks. This ensures you don’t have the unfortunate experience of attempting to explore the parks in unexpectedly uncomfortable shoes.

I am a writer and a Mom to four children and two baby shih-tzus. My first experience with the Magic was in 1988, when my parents surprised my brother and me with a visit to Walt Disney World after a short trip to see friends in Georgia. I still hum the tune played during the Main Street Electrical Parade and remember the feeling of excitement from my very first visit. I introduced my husband to the Magic several years ago, and we take our children to the parks every time we can. No matter how many times I visit Walt Disney World, it seems it’s not enough! The ever-changing experience only gets better with each trip, and I’m thrilled to share the Magic with others, as well as some of the tips and tricks to getting the most out of the Magic with each visit!
