Hersheypark's 120th summer season comes to a close on September 7, 2026, and guests visiting on this final day are also bidding farewell to a ride that's been part of the park for more than 30 years.
Saying Goodbye to Tidal Force
Tidal Force, the 32-year-old water ride on Hersheypark's Boardwalk, is permanently closing alongside the end of the summer season. The Hershey, Pennsylvania, theme park first announced the ride's retirement earlier this year, confirming it would shut down once summer operations wrapped.
Hersheypark made the closure official with a social media post on Sunday, September 6, writing:
After 32 years, it's time for Tidal Force to set sail. Visit us for one last ride through Monday 🌊🌈
Since opening in 1994, Tidal Force has sent riders up a 100-foot incline before a splashdown exceeding 50 mph, soaking both passengers and nearby spectators along the way. Hersheypark hasn't offered an explanation for the closure, and there's currently no word on whether a new attraction will eventually take its place on The Boardwalk.
Summer Ends, But the Park Stays Open
Though September 7 marks the last day of Hersheypark's 120th summer season, the largest amusement park in Pennsylvania isn't done for the year.
Weekend operations resume September 12 and continue through November 1, 2026, bringing back the park's fall lineup: Hersheypark Halloween during the day and the haunted Dark Nights event after dark. Both are covered under standard admission, with optional upgrades such as Fast Track access and tasting passes available for an additional cost.
Most weekends leading up to November 1 will follow this schedule:
- Friday: Hersheypark from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.; Dark Nights from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m.
- Saturday: Hersheypark from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.; Dark Nights from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m.
- Sunday: Hersheypark from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Dark Nights from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m.

What's Next for Hersheypark
Following the conclusion of the Halloween festivities on November 1, Hersheypark begins its holiday season with Christmas Candylane, which runs on select dates through January 3, 2027. The event includes more than two million holiday lights throughout the park, character visits with Santa and his reindeer, and festive overlays on select roller coasters.
The park will close for winter once Christmas Candylane ends, typically reopening in early April, though Hersheypark has not yet confirmed a specific date for its 2027 reopening.
