Guests arriving at The Hollywood Brown Derby at Disney's Hollywood Studios on Monday found a familiar outdoor gathering spot blocked off. The construction equipment now in place offers the clearest confirmation yet of what Walt Disney World Resort is building there.
Rolling Planters and Support Poles Take Over the Patio

On Monday, WDWNT reported that Walt Disney World Resort had installed support poles along the patio of The Hollywood Brown Derby, with rolling planters positioned to block off portions of the exterior. The outlet shared a photo of the construction presence now surrounding the outdoor area that is home to the Brown Derby Lounge — a popular spot for guests looking for small bites and cocktails without committing to a full Table Service reservation.
The support poles are a meaningful development. When Disney Fanatic first reported signs of an unannounced construction project at The Hollywood Brown Derby in mid-June, cast members had reportedly told WDWNT that Walt Disney World Resort planned to replace the patio's movable umbrellas with a permanent shade structure. The poles installed this week align directly with that explanation, suggesting the project is now moving from preparation into active construction.

Walt Disney World Resort has not issued any public statement about the work.
How It Affects Guests This Week
The patio construction has significantly reduced outdoor seating at the Brown Derby Lounge. According to Walt Disney World Resort's official website, the lounge remains open, but outdoor seating is limited and currently confined to the smaller patio on the opposite side of the building from the construction zone.

The indoor Hollywood Brown Derby dining room is unaffected and continuing to accept reservations and serve guests normally throughout the exterior project. Anyone hoping to dine inside should book ahead — reservations open 60 days in advance and can be secured online or by phone, as the restaurant regularly fills up.
