The future of Chad Powers is becoming clearer, even though Hulu hasn't made the announcement fans are still waiting to hear.
Following Season 2, the Glen Powell comedy appears positioned for another run. The latest episodes leave several major stories unresolved, and the creative team has openly discussed wanting to return.
However, there's an unusual twist.
Hulu hasn't officially renewed Chad Powers for Season 3. Yet fans already know what will happen if that renewal arrives: Season 3 is planned as the end.
‘Chad Powers’ Was Designed as a Three-Season Story
Co-creator and showrunner Michael Waldron recently explained that he and Powell have never envisioned Chad Powerscontinuing indefinitely.
“I think it’s a three-season show,” Waldron told Men's Journal. “Do one more. Do one more, and we wrap it up.”
Waldron explained that the story takes place across one college football season, giving the series a natural timeline. He also revealed that he already has the ending in mind.
That doesn't mean Hulu has formally ordered those final episodes.
As of September 2026, Season 3 remains unconfirmed. Still, Waldron has also said the team would love another opportunity to complete the story following Season 2's cliffhanger.
Season 2 Clearly Leaves Room for More
Season 2 doesn't exactly feel like a series finale.
After South Georgia defeats Texas, Tricia becomes another person involved in protecting Chad Powers' identity. Meanwhile, Coach Hudson discovers Chad and Ricky's romantic relationship.
Chad also announces that he intends to return to school for another season as he continues chasing a national championship.
Those developments leave plenty for a potential final season to address.
Waldron has said Chad Powers also expanded its reach during Season 2. He renewed his deal with 20th Television, the studio behind the Hulu series, earlier in 2026.
Neither development guarantees another season, but the show's creators clearly aren't treating Season 2 as the intended ending.
One More Season Would Be the Wrap
The unusual part is that a Season 3 announcement would essentially come with an expiration date attached.
Waldron and Powell have viewed this as a three-season story, and Waldron isn't talking about Season 3 as another chapter that could lead to Seasons 4, 5, and beyond.
He's talking about finishing what they started.
Both previous seasons contained six roughly 30-minute episodes, although Waldron has discussed the possibility of exploring the show's characters more deeply. Hulu also switched from a weekly release strategy in Season 1 to releasing all six Season 2 episodes simultaneously.
Exactly what a third season would look like remains unknown.
For now, Hulu still has the biggest decision to make.
Chad Powers hasn't officially secured Season 3. But if Powell puts the disguise back on for one more run, fans should prepare for it to be his last.
