Immediate Change Issued to Guests Visiting EPCOT Following Years of Chaos

A trip through Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT may soon feel far less chaotic thanks to a newly introduced guest flow system inside the attraction’s queue.

Anyone who has ridden the popular Marvel coaster over the last few years likely remembers the moment. The pre-show doors open, guests rush forward from three directions at once, and the narrow hallway leading to the loading area suddenly turns into a packed crowd of people trying to get ahead.

Disney now appears to be addressing the issue directly.

New reports from EPCOT indicate cast members have begun using staged lane releases outside the attraction’s pre-show rooms in an effort to reduce pushing and crowd congestion. The operational update comes after repeated complaints from guests and reports that broken glass in the area recently needed replacing.

A Longstanding Issue at EPCOT’s Headliner Attraction

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind has remained one of the biggest draws at Walt Disney World since its 2022 opening. The attraction introduced EPCOT’s first roller coaster and quickly became known for its large-scale storytelling, soundtrack-driven ride experience, and unique reverse-launch system.

Still, even highly rated Disney attractions can develop operational weak spots.

At Cosmic Rewind, the problem centered around the transition from the pre-show room to the coaster loading area. Guests exit the presentation through three different doors, but all three streams immediately combine into a single hallway moments later.

Because one exit naturally feeds into the hallway faster than the others, riders frequently attempted to move ahead of the crowd as quickly as possible. Guests online often described the experience as cramped, uncomfortable, and overly competitive for what should have been a seamless Disney attraction queue.

Disney Tests a New Strategy

The latest update reportedly introduces a far more controlled process.

Cast members have added stanchions directly outside the attraction’s pre-show exits, dividing guests into separate lanes before they move toward boarding. Instead of allowing everyone to advance simultaneously, cast members now temporarily stop each lane and release them individually.

According to reports, the lane furthest away from the hallway entrance now moves first, giving those guests priority access before the remaining lanes follow behind. By rotating the advantage away from the closest exit, Disney removes much of the motivation for guests to rush or crowd one another when the doors open.

The adjustment may sound small, but it directly targets the moment where congestion previously became unavoidable.

Not Disney’s First Attempt

Disney has experimented with several Cosmic Rewind queue procedures since the attraction debuted. Past efforts included closing select exit doors during operations, modifying how Lightning Lane and standby guests were grouped inside the pre-show areas, and installing temporary crowd barriers within the attraction queue itself.

Some changes only appeared briefly before disappearing again, while others quietly remained in place. At this stage, Disney has not announced whether the newest procedure is permanent. Like many operational tests at Walt Disney World, the company may continue refining the process based on guest response and crowd data over the coming months.

The Bigger Picture for Walt Disney World

Although the update focuses on a single hallway inside one attraction, it highlights a broader challenge Disney continues to manage across its parks.

High-demand rides now bring heavier crowds, more complicated queue systems, and increased pressure surrounding standby waits and Lightning Lane access. Even short moments of disorder inside an attraction queue can quickly impact the overall guest experience.

That’s especially true for Cosmic Rewind, where the attraction’s pre-show is designed to build excitement before guests board the coaster itself. Allowing the transition to dissolve into crowding and pushing undercuts the immersive atmosphere Disney aimed to create.

The new lane-release process appears intended to restore some order while keeping guests moving efficiently.

What Guests Will See Moving Forward

If you’re planning a visit to EPCOT soon, expect cast members to guide guests more carefully after the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind pre-show wraps up.

The updated procedure is already changing how crowds move through one of Walt Disney World’s busiest attractions, and many guests may find the boarding process noticeably calmer than before. Whether Disney keeps the system permanently remains unknown, but for now, Cosmic Rewind’s infamous hallway rush appears to be getting a much-needed overhaul.
