A routine ride on the Incredicoaster took an unexpected turn when Disneyland Resort guests were forced to evacuate mid-ride after the attraction suddenly came to a halt. One Disney Park guest shared their experience from an unusual vantage point—stranded high above the park.
A Sudden Stop Leaves Guests Stuck in Mid-Air

The Incredicoaster, Disneyland Resort’s high-speed looping coaster, has been a fan favorite since it originally opened as California Screamin’ in 2001. After its reimagining in 2018 as part of Paradise Pier’s transformation into Pixar Pier, the ride has continued to thrill guests with its fast launch, intense drops, and signature inversion. But last week, an unexpected malfunction brought the ride to a screeching halt, leaving guests stuck in their seats.
Reddit user u/jeph62 shared a photo from one of the highest points on the coaster after their ride unexpectedly stopped.

“We were evacuated off the top of the fire tunnel yesterday during the rain storms,” they wrote. “The view from there was one you don’t get to see very often and now we have an awesome story to add to our Disney trip!”
What Caused the Incredicoaster Malfunction?
While sudden ride stops may seem alarming, they are often triggered by automatic safety systems designed to protect guests. In this case, a Disney cast member explained that the ride shut down after a train failed to launch correctly, rolling backward down the initial hill and triggering the ride’s emergency system.

“A cast member told us they had a train that didn’t launch properly and rolled backwards down the initial hill causing all trains to stop in certain safe zones,” the Disney Park guest said.
Guests remained secured in their seats while Disneyland Resort’s maintenance crew arrived to assess the situation.
“The maintenance crew came up in full harnesses and attached to the side of the ride,” the guest described. “We were so confused when they unlocked our harnesses and said ‘go stand over there on the scaffold walkway in the wind and rain.’ My girls are both under 10 and were terrified!”
A Safe but Unforgettable Incredicoaster Evacuation

Despite the unexpected delay, Disney cast members ensured a safe and orderly evacuation, guiding guests off the ride within approximately 30 minutes. While the temporary shutdown may have been a nerve-wracking experience for some, it serves as a testament to Disneyland Resort’s strict safety protocols and the ride’s well-engineered emergency systems.
The Incredicoaster has since reopened and is operating normally. Disney has not issued a public statement on the evacuation.
