Is The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Being Rebranded for the New HBO Series?

With the new HBO TV series based on the beloved Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling already deep in its casting process, fans of the Wizarding World are wondering how this new take on the beloved franchise will impact the attractions at Universal Studios.

The upcoming series, which will reimagine Rowling’s world with a new cast and, presumably, a new look for the Wizarding World, might set the stage for a major rebranding of the Universal Studios lands currently based on the original eight films.

Or, at the very least, the parks could adopt the new Harry Potter in some shape or form.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, based directly on the eight Harry Potter films, has been a massive success for Universal Studios over the years and has transformed its parks, with Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure and Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida bringing fans face-to-face with the magical universe as seen in the eight films.

But with the new HBO series set to be a complete reimagining of those films, it’s possible the parks could follow suit with a redesign of some kind to match the new vision.

It’s worth noting that Universal is quick to evolve, especially with the inclusion of the Fantastic Beasts franchise at Universal’s new Epic Universe (wizarding Paris) opening on May 22. However, a full rebranding to reflect the HBO series would likely be seen as a rather drastic move. After all, Potterheads from all around the world adore the films.

Universal has built a highly immersive experience based on the original films, and the loyal fans who’ve helped make it a success feel a deep attachment to this version of Harry Potter. So, any changes would need to be handled carefully to avoid alienating guests.

Not only that, but we’ve no idea if the upcoming series — which is already off to a rocky start due to the ongoing controversy surrounding J.K. Rowling — will even be any good.

However, Universal Studios could still incorporate elements of the HBO series with new characters, locations, and attractions, without losing the aesthetic of the beloved film series. It’s also worth noting that Warner Bros. has previously stated that the films will “remain at the core of the franchise” even when the new series arrives.

The idea of rebranding the parks for a new version of the Wizarding World isn’t being talked about in any official capacity. But as the new series takes shape, the parks may eventually take inspiration from this new version of Harry Potter.
