Jamie Lee Curtis Might Not Be Done With ‘Halloween’ Just Yet

Jamie Lee Curtis has long been synonymous with Halloween, ever since she first became the “Final Girl” back in 1978. John Carpenter’s original 1978 film made her a household name. Curtis reprised her role as Laurie Strode in Halloween II (1981), but her journey with the franchise has been a long and winding road of surprise returns, retcons, and more “final” appearances than a rock band on a farewell tour.

After stepping away from the franchise for two decades, Curtis made her major comeback in Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998), where Laurie faced off against her psychopathic brother, Michael Myers, one last time. Or so we thought. Halloween: Resurrection (2003) threw a wrench in that ending, retconning Michael’s death in H20 and killing off Laurie in the opening scenes. It looked like Laurie’s story had finally come to an end.

Then came David Gordon Green’s 2018 reboot, which took a chainsaw to the franchise’s sprawling continuity. Ignoring all the sequels after Carpenter’s original, Green’s Halloween brought Curtis back for a new trilogy with a grittier, battle-hardened Laurie Strode. She faced off against Michael Myers yet again, with Halloween Kills (2021) and Halloween Ends (2022) completing her arc. And Ends was supposed to be the true end for Curtis as Laurie. This time, she insisted it was her last outing, period. But is it ever really over?

Since Ends, Curtis, now 65, has repeatedly said she’s done with Halloween for good. But in classic horror-movie fashion, her latest comments have left many fans scratching their heads. During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly (EW), Curtis shared what sounded like a definitive goodbye… but not without a hint of something more.

“I have hung up my bell-bottoms and my pale blue button-down shirt, and I have relinquished [Laurie Strode] to the ages with a warm, ‘aloha,’ and a thanks for all the years and memories,” Curtis said. But just as fans might start believing she’s truly done, Curtis added, “And yet, if I’ve learned anything in my 65 years on the planet, it’s never say never.” With that tantalizing hint, Curtis abruptly ended the call.

Halloween Ends didn’t just mark the end of Curtis’s tenure as Laurie Strode; it was also the curtain call for Green’s trilogy. The movie also took a bold step by killing off Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney) on screen. Yet, as horror fans know, in Haddonfield, nothing ever really dies. A Halloween TV series that will mark the beginning of yet another timeline is reportedly in the works from Trancas and Miramax, while a Halloween video game—one that John Carpenter is “intimately involved with”—is also in development.

So, was Curtis’s “never say never” line just a nod to her many Halloween comebacks? Or could we see her pop up in the new Halloween series or game? One thing’s clear: whether it’s on TV, in a video game, or somewhere else entirely, Jamie Lee Curtis’ cryptic parting words suggest that she might still have one more trick—or treat—up her sleeve.
