REPORT: Josh D’Amaro Looking To Expand Disney World’s Next 3 Lands

Walt Disney World is currently in the middle of what could become its most important expansion era in decades. Major new lands are already in motion, and Disney has made it clear that the resort is heading into a future built around massive themed environments and franchise-driven storytelling.

But now, a rumor circulating online suggests that the person leading Disney into that future may not be satisfied with the plans as they currently stand.

Josh D’Amaro, Disney’s newly appointed CEO, is already being linked to behind-the-scenes shakeups, including speculation that he may have ordered changes to Disney’s upcoming Villains Land project. If that rumor holds any truth, it raises an even bigger possibility: D’Amaro could be looking at Disney World’s next three lands and asking Imagineering to push them further.

Those three lands are Monsters, Inc. Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and the Cars-themed expansion planned for Magic Kingdom.

All three projects are expected to open before Villains Land, which means they could end up defining the early years of D’Amaro’s leadership.

The Villains Land Rumor Has Fans Paying Attention

The Villains Land rumor is simple but dramatic. The claim is that Disney’s original plans were not ambitious enough, and that D’Amaro has been working behind the scenes to push for something larger, more immersive, and more thrilling than what fans initially expected.

Even without confirmation, the rumor fits into a broader narrative that Disney fans have been discussing for years.

Many guests feel Disney has been playing things too safe, especially as Universal continues raising the bar in Orlando. If D’Amaro wants to position Disney World as the clear leader again, it makes sense that he would take a closer look at the expansions already in progress.

Monsters, Inc. Land Could Become a Bigger Hollywood Studios Anchor

Hollywood Studios is already a high-demand park, but it still suffers from major crowd congestion and limited space. A Monsters, Inc. expansion has the potential to reshape the park’s traffic flow, but only if it arrives as a truly substantial land.

If D’Amaro is pushing for additional intricacies, Monsters, Inc. Land could see expanded environments, upgraded ride technology, or additional attractions beyond what was originally scoped out. The franchise has enough characters, humor, and world-building to support a land that feels alive rather than decorative.

Tropical Americas Could Be Animal Kingdom’s Next Big Leap

Tropical Americas is expected to be a major addition to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and it may also be the project that matters most to the park’s long-term future.

Animal Kingdom has a strong atmosphere, but it has struggled with the perception that it is not a full-day park. A land like Tropical Americas needs to deliver more than theming. It needs to bring energy, new experiences, and something that makes guests want to stay later.

If D’Amaro is personally reviewing projects, this would be a logical one for him to enhance. Animal Kingdom expansions often rely on details and immersion, and even small upgrades can make a major impact.

Cars Land at Magic Kingdom Could Be the Most Carefully Watched Project

The Cars-themed expansion coming to Magic Kingdom has major potential, but it also comes with major risk. Magic Kingdom fans tend to be far more critical of changes than guests in other parks.

That means Cars Land cannot feel like a quick addition. It has to feel like a fully developed environment that belongs in the park’s overall identity.

If D’Amaro is looking to strengthen Disney World’s future, this is one of the projects where he could push for bigger show elements, stronger ride experiences, and a more complete land design.

Disney’s Expansion Plans May Still Be Evolving

Disney has not confirmed that any of these projects are being redesigned or expanded. But the rumor surrounding Villains Land has already shifted the conversation.

Instead of asking when Disney World’s next lands will open, fans are now asking a different question.

Are these lands truly finished on paper, or is Disney still changing the plan?

If Josh D’Amaro is aiming to leave his mark early, these three projects may be his best opportunity to do it.

Andrew Boardwine

A frequent visitor of Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort, Andrew will likely be found freefalling on Twilight Zone Tower of Terror or enjoying Pirates of the Caribbean. Over at Universal, he'll be taking in the thrills of the Jurassic World Velocicoaster and Revenge of the Mummy
