Though currently best known for playing Avenger Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Scarlett Johansson will soon face genetically engineered dinosaurs in Jurassic World 4 (2025), the seventh film in the long-running Jurassic series.

Starring alongside Jonathan Bailey, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Rupert Friend, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, Audrina Miranda, and Mahershala Ali, Johansson will lead “a completely fresh take launching a new Jurassic era, following three adults and three teens getting stuck on the island.”

After months of silence, the star finally spoke out about the upcoming film in an interview with ComicBook, describing the script by screenwriter David Koepp (Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park) as “incredible” and admitting that she’s a lifelong fan of the franchise.

Now, while continuing to promote her latest film Fly Me to the Moon (2024) on the NBC morning show TODAY, Johansson was asked about Jurassic World 4which she’s currently filming on location in Thailand — for a second time.

Just like in her previous interview, the Black Widow (2021) star gets very giddy about the topic, explaining how she remembers seeing the original 1993 film in theaters.

“It’s one of the first movies I remember seeing in theater,” she says. “I was probably, like, ten or eleven, and it was absolutely transformative for me. We’d never seen anything like that. CGI used in that way. And when you see it, it still holds up, I mean, it looks so great.”

She adds, “It looked incredible, the actors were so amazing; Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum. And it had so much heart. The score by John Williams.”

The TODAY host then surprises Johansson with a video message from Jurassic Park legacy actor Jeff Goldblum, who plays weary mathematician Dr. Ian Malcolm in Jurassic Park (1993), The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), and the latest sequel, Jurassic World Dominion (2022).

“Dr. Johansson, this is Jeff Goldblum,” he says. “Here’s what I want to say to you. This I know: Scarlett will find a way. Don’t get eaten, unless you want to.”

Goldblum must have seen the actress’ recent interview with ComicBook, in which she said she’s been trying to get into the Jurassic franchise for over 10 years, explaining that she was so desperate that she’d have gladly been eaten by a dinosaur. “Oh, you know, [I can] die in the first five minutes,” she joked, “I can get eaten by whatever, like, I’ll do the crap service, like, I’ll do anything for it!'”

Goldblum signs off by blowing a kiss to the new Jurassic lead, saying, “I love you.”

Needless to say, Jurassic Park superfan Johansson is elated by Goldblum’s warm welcome.

Sadly, none of the actors from the previous Jurassic films, such as Chris Pratt (Owen Grady), Laura Dern (Ellie Sattler), Sam Neill (Alan Grant), Bryce Dallas Howard (Claire Dearing), and, of course, Jeff Goldblum, are expected to reprise their roles in Jurassic World 4.

The film is being directed by Gareth Edwards with a screenplay by David Koepp. Steven Spielberg, director of the first two films, has returns as executive producer.

Jurassic World 4 will be released in theaters on July 2, 2025.
