The Jurassic saga is back in action—only this time, it’s making waves in a much bigger way than fans may have anticipated.
Jurassic World Rebirth ushers in a bold relaunch of the dinosaur-centric blockbuster universe, taking a back-to-basics approach under the direction of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story filmmaker Gareth Edwards. With a screenplay from Jurassic Park (1993) veteran David Koepp, the film revives the DNA of the original while layering in the scale of a modern tentpole.
Leading the charge is Scarlett Johansson as Zora Bennett, who embarks on a perilous mission to retrieve rare dinosaur DNA from an isolated island. She’s joined by Mahershala Ali as Duncan Kincaid, Jonathan Bailey as Dr. Henry Loomis, Rupert Friend as Martin Krebs, and Manuel García-Rulfo as Reuben Delgado.
Initial critical response has been varied. While some reviewers take aim at the film’s character development, others are applauding its high-octane dinosaur sequences. Fans appear more receptive, bolstered by Alexandre Desplat’s updated take on John Williams’ classic score.
This new installment follows a six-film legacy: Jurassic Park (1993), The Lost World (1997), Jurassic Park III (2001), Jurassic World (2015), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), and Jurassic World Dominion (2022).
Jurassic World Rebirth Stomps into the Box Office
Despite a modest Rotten Tomatoes critic score of 51%, the film boasts a more generous 72% audience rating and is on track for a dominant Fourth of July run.
“Universal and Amblin‘s Jurassic World Rebirth came in higher on Thursday then what we spotted, a very good sign, with $25.3M, -17% off from its opening day,” Deadline reported. “The revised outlook is now $137.5M over five days, $81.7M over 3-days at 4,063 theaters.”
Competing for ticket sales are titles like F1 (2025), How To Train Your Dragon (2025), Elio (2025), and M3GAN 2.0 (2025), but the dinosaurs may still prove king of the box office jungle.
