‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Likely To Launch a Whole New Trilogy

It’s been more than 30 years since Jurassic Park (1993) redefined blockbuster cinema, and after two trilogies and over $6 billion at the global box office, Universal isn’t done yet. Jurassic World Rebirth, set to hit theaters July 2, 2025, marks the franchise’s boldest reinvention in the series to date — and possibly the start of another trilogy.

Directed by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) filmmaker Gareth Edwards, Rebirth follows a covert mission on a remote jungle island teeming with mutant dinosaurs.

Scarlett Johansson leads the cast as Zora Bennett, an operative tasked with recovering genetically modified dinosaur DNA that may hold the cure to human disease. She’s joined by Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey, but the real stars are the film’s new dinosaurs.

The second trailer revealed the “Distortus Rex,” a grotesque, twisted version of the T-Rex. Then there are the Mutadons: flying raptors.

While Universal hasn’t announced any sequels, the writing’s on the wall. Given the financial success of the film series so far, and with the words “a new Jurassic era” being used in marketing, it’s hard to believe this is a one-and-done.

So what could the next two films look like? With mutant dinos now on the table, the infamous human-dino hybrid concept once pitched for Jurassic Park 4 doesn’t seem so far off anymore. In fact, this trilogy could go many places no Jurassic film has dared go.
