Disney Pulls ‘Toy Story’ Attraction, Replaces It With Marvel Theming

The Toy Story (1995) era at the Downtown Disney District LEGO Store is officially over, and some familiar faces from Marvel Studios have moved in to help fill the gap.

The Woody and Buzz Lightyear LEGO sculpture that greeted guests at the Downtown Disney District store from its opening day in 2001 was removed earlier this year. In its place, a series of new character displays is now taking shape across the building's exterior, set inside yellow-and-white frames built from oversized plastic bricks.

The most recent addition arrived on April 27, when WDWNT reported that an Avengers-themed display had appeared on the outside of the Disneyland Resort merchandise location.

Spider-Man, Thor, Captain Marvel, the Falcon, and Iron Man are visible above the construction walls against an intergalactic-inspired backdrop.

The Avengers display is the second new addition to appear in recent weeks. Last week, a Frozen (2013) logo and a snow-covered background showed up inside a separate yellow-and-white frame at a different section of the building's exterior. Together, the two displays signal that the store's overhaul is spanning multiple Disney-owned franchises rather than a straightforward one-for-one swap.

More Empty Frames Remain

Additional yellow-and-white frames are still visible and unfilled on the building's exterior, suggesting more displays are being built and installed in phases. Whether any Toy Story theming will return to the store in a new form remains unknown. Disneyland Resort has not commented on the project or confirmed a timeline for its completion.

The store has remained open to shoppers throughout the exterior refurbishment, which is one of the most significant transformations the location has undergone since it opened alongside Disney California Adventure Park in 2001.
