The wildfires in Maui have ravaged homes, taken people’s lives, and done shockingly tragic damage to an incredible landscape in Lahaina.
Many famous Hawaii natives (like Moana star Auli’i Cravalho) have already shared some ways to help the people of Maui as they try to recover and as they mourn their home — but now Disney has brought another way to provide support into the mix!
Only 200 Copies?
According to The Wrap, Walt Disney Animation Studios artist Daniel Arriaga. has created a stunning limited-edition Moana print to sell for Maui relief. The print can be seen here as well as above; it is from Cyclops Print Works, and only 200 copies will be made.
Disney movie and Disney Princess fans can buy their rare copy of this beautiful “19-color screen-print edition” starting at 10 a.m. PT on Wednesday August 23 on the Cyclops Print Works website. Each print costs $80, “and a portion of each sale will be donated to relief efforts in Maui, Hawaii.”
Walt Disney Animation Studios artist Daniel Arriaga is best known for his work with Pixar.
The renowned Disney and Pixar animator got his start with these iconic companies when he assisted with Monsters, Inc. in 2001. Then, Arriaga had a hand in the animation of Pixar movies like The Incredibles (2004), Ratatouille (2007), WALL•E (2008) and Up (2009).
An Accomplished Animator for an Important Task
Arriaga continued to rise in the animation industry ranks, becoming Pixar’s Toy Story 3 Character Art Director before dabbling in some Walt Disney Animation projects like Wreck-It Ralph (2012).
These days, Arriaga is hard at work on the Moana Disney+ show that is on its way, which makes his creation of this Moana-inspired Maui-relief-related screen-print all the more timely!
“It’s truly an honor,” Arriaga enthused while discussing the product. “Moana is such a beautiful story/film so to be able to create a piece for it, like any fan art, is very creatively satisfying.”
How Far Would Moana Go to Help?
The Pixar and Disney animator also pointed out that Moana herself can be an inspiring character (with a lot of “passion for her people and culture”) in the eyes of anyone who is trying to overcome adversity.
“She is not a quitter and will do whatever it takes to achieve her goals. A true hero to look up to with a heart of gold,” the animator (who has also created a Lilo & Stitch print in the past) added.
Are you going to purchase one of these historic limited-edition Moana prints, both in an effort to expand your Disney Princess merchandise collection and in an effort to help everyone who has been devastated by the Maui wildfires in Lahaina?
