Lucasfilm Replaces 2 Key ‘Ahsoka’ Stars Ahead of Season 2 Release

Lucasfilm didn’t trumpet its latest update for Ahsoka Season 2. There was no teaser trailer or headline-grabbing press conference. Instead, the news arrived quietly: two characters have been recast as the series prepares for its next chapter.

That type of move rarely happens without intention. When a studio replaces actors instead of writing characters out, it usually means the story still depends on them.

The Foundation Season 1 Built

Ahsoka made a strong impression when it premiered on Disney+. The series carried forward storylines from Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) and Star Wars Rebels (2014), translating animated heroes and villains into live action while deepening the mythology around Grand Admiral Thrawn.

The show balanced nostalgia with expansion. It explored Force lore, advanced the interconnected “Mandoverse,” and left its central characters in precarious positions. Thrawn escaped into the primary galaxy. Ahsoka and Sabine remained stranded. Baylan Skoll chased a mysterious power hinted at involving the Mortis Gods.

The finale didn’t wrap anything up. It deliberately opened doors.

Season 2 Moves Forward

Lucasfilm confirmed that a second season is in development, with production relocating to the United Kingdom. While the studio hasn’t announced a firm release date, many anticipate a premiere in late 2026. Dave Filoni continues shaping the narrative direction, and the timeline remains anchored between Return of the Jedi (1983) and the sequel trilogy era.

Thrawn’s expanded threat ensures the stakes remain high. Even without a full trailer, fans have already seen glimpses of returning cast members and one significant new face.

The Actors Who Return

Rosario Dawson reprises Ahsoka Tano. Natasha Liu Bordizzo returns as Sabine Wren. Eman Esfandi steps back into Ezra Bridger’s role, and Lars Mikkelsen continues portraying Grand Admiral Thrawn. Their presence preserves the continuity established in Season 1.

However, two supporting characters will appear differently.

One Important Star Wars Story Lives On

Ray Stevenson’s portrayal of Baylan Skoll earned admiration for its depth and quiet intensity before his passing in 2023. Instead of closing the character’s story off-screen, Lucasfilm chose to move forward with a recast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rory McCann will take over the role.

That choice underscores Baylan’s importance. Lucasfilm shared an official look at McCann suited up as the former Jedi, confirming the character remains integral to Season 2’s narrative arc.

Another New Face

Claudia Black, who played Nightsister Klothow, confirmed she will not return. After production shifted to the United Kingdom, Black explained that the compensation offered would not meet the demands of filming abroad while supporting her family. Negotiations ended without agreement, and she stepped away.

Subsequent reporting confirmed that the role has been recast. Lucasfilm hasn’t publicly named the replacement yet, but Klothow will continue to appear.

The Larger Meaning

These decisions reveal more than casting logistics. Baylan’s pursuit of ancient Force power remains unresolved. Thrawn’s alliance with the Nightsisters positions them as political and mystical players in the galaxy’s future.

Lucasfilm could have simplified the story by removing characters tied to complicated production changes. Instead, it kept them in place. That signals confidence in the larger arc Filoni intends to tell.

Season 2 of Ahsoka doesn’t just continue threads—it reinforces them. And by preserving Baylan and Klothow, Lucasfilm makes it clear that the next chapter won’t shrink in scope.

It will expand.
