Magic Kingdom Is Changing How Guests Enter Its Park Early

Here’s What You Need To Know About the Summer

There’s a certain kind of magic that exists only in the earliest moments of a Walt Disney World morning. Before the Florida heat settles in and before crowds flood down Main Street, U.S.A., a small group of guests quietly enters Magic Kingdom with a singular mission: get ahead.

For years, Early Entry has been more than just a perk—it’s been a strategy. Guests staying at Walt Disney World Resort hotels and select partner properties gain access to the parks 30 minutes before the general public, giving them a critical head start on some of the most popular attractions in the world. For many, this early window can mean the difference between walking onto Space Mountain or waiting over an hour later in the day.

This ritual has become deeply ingrained in Disney World culture. Guests line up before sunrise, coffee in hand, mapping out their routes to Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Peter Pan’s Flight, or Tomorrowland favorites. Some even position themselves strategically near TRON Lightcycle / Run, despite the attraction not participating in Early Entry access.

But this year, something unexpected is quietly reshaping those early morning priorities.

Magic Kingdom’s Evolving Landscape Has Already Forced Guests To Rethink Their Plans

Magic Kingdom, the crown jewel of Walt Disney World, is currently undergoing one of its most transformative periods in recent history. Large-scale expansion projects, including the development of Piston Peak and the long-awaited Villains Land, are already altering the park’s future footprint.

While Disney continues building toward these ambitious additions, guests have relied heavily on Early Entry to maximize their experiences during this transitional period. Even with ongoing construction, the morning access still offers opportunities to enjoy beloved attractions like Space Mountain, Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train with shorter wait times.

At the same time, anticipation is building for the return of two iconic attractions: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. Both rides are currently undergoing extensive refurbishments and are expected to reopen in 2026 with major updates, including new ride enhancements and refreshed experiences. When they return, they’re expected to dramatically shift crowd patterns once again.

But even as the park evolves physically, Disney is now introducing a change that affects something far more personal—the emotional experience of those early hours.

Fans Online Are Already Debating Whether the New Offering Will Change Their Strategy

On social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit, Disney fans frequently share detailed Early Entry strategies, debating which rides to prioritize and how to maximize every second. It’s a point of pride among frequent visitors to master the system.

Now, discussions are shifting.

Some fans have expressed excitement at the possibility of new morning opportunities that go beyond simply rushing to rides. Others are wondering whether this new development could fundamentally change crowd patterns—potentially easing congestion at popular attractions or creating entirely new demand elsewhere.

One thing is clear: Disney is giving guests a new reason to reconsider how they begin their day.

Disney Is Introducing Exclusive Early Morning Character Meet and Greets During Early Entry

As part of the Cool Kids Summer promotion, running from May 26 through September 8, Walt Disney World is introducing a new Early Entry experience: exclusive character meet and greets available only to eligible hotel guests before the parks officially open.

This means that instead of immediately heading to rides, guests will now have the opportunity to meet a rotating cast of Disney characters in each park—including Magic Kingdom—during that coveted early morning window.

Disney has not released a full list of participating characters, but officials have confirmed that the lineup will vary across parks and days. This approach is designed to encourage guests to visit multiple parks during their stay to experience different meet and greet opportunities.

Importantly, these early character appearances will not replace any existing meet and greets during regular park hours. Instead, they will serve as an additional experience exclusive to Early Entry guests.

For families and longtime Disney fans, this could provide a rare opportunity to meet beloved characters with shorter lines and a more relaxed atmosphere—something that has become increasingly difficult during peak park hours.

The Change Could Reshape How Guests Approach Their Mornings at Walt Disney World

The introduction of character meet and greets during Early Entry has the potential to subtly transform guest behavior across Walt Disney World.

Historically, Early Entry has been dominated by ride-focused guests racing toward the most popular attractions. Now, some visitors may choose to prioritize character interactions instead—especially families with younger children or fans seeking unique experiences.

This shift could also help distribute crowds more evenly throughout Magic Kingdom and other parks during the early morning hours, potentially benefiting guests who still prefer to focus on attractions.

Meanwhile, the park continues to offer Early Entry access to several fan-favorite rides, including Peter Pan’s Flight, Space Mountain, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and Tomorrowland Speedway. With major ride reopenings expected in 2026, Early Entry will remain one of the most valuable tools for maximizing time at Walt Disney World.

Ultimately, Disney’s decision reflects a broader effort to enhance guest experiences in meaningful ways—offering not just efficiency, but emotional connection.

For guests planning a Walt Disney World vacation this summer, the question is no longer just which ride to run to first—but whether a magical character moment might be worth it instead.

What do you think? Would you use Early Entry to meet characters, or would you still head straight for the rides?

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
