Earlier this week, the Supreme Court determined that the President of the United States has immunity for acts considered a part of the job of President. In some ways, this puts the President above the laws he is sworn to protect and defend.

After the Supreme Court’s decision, those on the left, including Mark Ruffalo, the Incredible Hulk, reacted harshly. Ruffalo commented on a social media post reminding people of the 1933 Enabling Act in Nazi Germany, which stripped away checks and balances from the German Government.

Mark Ruffalo reacted to the social media post by commenting, “Just for the record, history is repeating itself.” Well, that one comment from a Disney actor sparked many issues and could help former Disney star Gina Carano in her case against the company.

Carano reacted to the post with a long comment about Disney’s double standard. She feels that Disney punishes conservative voices while allowing liberal actors like Mark Ruffalo and her Mandalorian co-star Pedro Pascal to say whatever they want without reprisal.

The Firing and Lawsuit

In 2021, Gina Carano was fired from The Mandalorian after she made comments comparing Republicans in the United States of America with Jewish people during the Holocaust. The Walt Disney Company allowed Carano to apologize for her remarks and meet with Jewish leaders for a conversation about the Holocaust.

After Carano refused, she was fired from the Star Wars show. After her firing, Carano took to social media to point out that her co-star Pedro Pascal made comments comparing Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler and with Confederates, and he was not fired.

Then, in February, Carano sued The Walt Disney Company for discrimination and wrongful termination. Her lawsuit was funded by Elon Musk, the owner of X (formerly Twitter).

As part of her case against Disney, Carano has introduced Pascal’s social media posts, claiming that LucasFilm allowed him to stay in his role despite the derogatory posts.

Disney has asked a Federal Judge to dismiss Carano’s lawsuit, claiming that the company had every right to fire her after she espoused views it did not believe in.

Ruffalo’s Tweet

After Mark Ruffalo posted his tweet about the current state of America, Carano responded with a long tweet of her own, defending his right to speak his mind freely and stating that she should have the same right to do so without fear of being fired.

Carano wrote:

There is example after example, such as Mark Ruffalos below that prove this. Whom btw, I believe should have the right to express himself without getting fired, although I cringe at most all of his political posts.

He is an actor, but he is a human being passionately engaging in something that he feels strongly about. It must be a nice feeling to express yourself so freely. Not everyone in this country has that privilege without having everything that they love taken from them.

Do we wonder why he has that privilege and I did not? The answers are in my case.

Carano ends her tweet by saying that she hopes her case will bring “balance” to the industry and spark more conversations about politics in Hollywood.

However, one of the things that Carano misses in her tweet is that Ruffalo is a private citizen now and is not currently employed by The Walt Disney Company. According to his IMDB page, Ruffalo has nothing on his schedule that indicates he is working on anything in the MCU.

While the First Amendment protects you from government censorship, it does not protect you from being fired for what you say. But Carano is right about one thing: more conversations would help everyone.
