Power Rangers stormed onto TV screens in 1993, quickly cementing its place in the hearts of ’90s kids all over the world. With spandex-clad teenagers battling villains in giant robots and shouting iconic phrases like “It’s morphin’ time,” this was cheesy, colorful television at its finest. Decades later, the franchise is far from fading; it’s morphing into something even more exciting with a nostalgic twist.
Fans of the series have something special to look forward to with the upcoming game “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind”. Like the hit “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge” from 2022, this 2D, arcade-style brawler brings back the retro vibe of the ’90s. With hand-drawn pixel art and gameplay that combines fighting, shooting, and even driving sequences, players can relive their childhood while morphing into their favorite Rangers and piloting Dinozords and the Mighty Megazord.

Nostalgia and Mutants Collide in New Power Rangers Video Game
The plot takes fans back to the beginning, reimagining the origins of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers team. According to the PlayStation website, Robo Rita, a robotic version of the iconic villain from the 2023 Netflix legacy film Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Once and Always, teams up with her younger self to rewrite history and stop the formation of the Power Rangers. The stakes couldn’t be higher as players face off against classic monsters across the timeline.
Even more exciting is the voice cast, which features several actors from this year’s critically acclaimed Disney+ series X-Men ’97. AJ LoCascio, the voice behind Gambit in the animated series, takes on the roles of Jason Scott (the Red Ranger), Zordon, and Alpha 5. Isaac Robinson-Smith, who voiced Bishop and King T’Chaka in X-Men ’97, brings Zack Taylor (the Black Ranger) to life. Meanwhile, Holly Chou, who played the mutant Jubilee in the series, steps into the shoes of Trini Kwan, the Yellow Ranger.

The blend of mutant talent and Power Rangers nostalgia is a perfect pairing for fans of both franchises. The game promises plenty of surprises, including a stellar supporting cast. Cristina Vee (Kimberly Hart, the Pink Ranger) and James Willems (Tommy Oliver, the Green Ranger) also bring their skills to the beloved series. With X-Men ’97 set to continue Disney’s animated Marvel legacy, this crossover of talent only adds to the excitement.
Power Rangers isn’t stopping at video games, either. From BOOM! Studios’ comics to enduring pop culture appeal, the franchise has proven its staying power over the past 30 years. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind arrives on December 10, promising an adventure packed with nostalgia, action, and a little mutant magic.
