The investigation into actor Matthew Perry’s untimely death in October 2023 is set to bring an explosive ring of criminal charges against some of Hollywood’s elite, and it could happen as early as this week.
A criminal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of actor Matthew Perry in late 2023 has been in motion for months after details from the autopsy report noted elevated levels of a powerful drug in the late actor’s system–levels that couldn’t be explained away by his prescribed series of treatments for depression.
Actor Matthew Perry was found in the jacuzzi at his home in the Los Angeles area neighborhood of Pacific Palisades on the afternoon of October 28, 2023. Paramedics were called to the actor’s home, but their attempts to revive him were unsuccessful. He was 54 years old.
Perry played a variety of acting roles on the silver screen and on television, but he is best remembered as the lovable–and sarcastic–Chandler Bing on the Emmy-winning NBC sitcom Friends, alongside actresses Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, and Jennifer Aniston and actors Matt Leblanc and David Schwimmer. The sitcom aired during primetime from 1994 to 2004 and quickly became a fan favorite.
Over the years, the series and its lovable–yet quirky–cast of characters have developed a cult following across newer generations, much like other sitcom series, including NBC’s The Office starring Steve Carrell and John Krasinski and the comedic sitcom series starring comedian Jerry Seinfeld, simply titled Seinfeld.

Sadly, however, the untimely and sudden death of Matthew Perry is not part of the plot in a brand-new series on NBC. Rather, it has become the central point of a massive criminal investigation being carried out by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the FBI, and the United States Postal Inspection Service.
An Autopsy Report Points Notes a Concerning Finding
Perry died in late October 2023, and the final autopsy report was released in December. The report listed Perry’s death as accidental, resulting from the “acute effects” of the powerful dissociative drug ketamine.
Though the late actor had been undergoing a series of ketamine infusion treatments for depression, the levels of the drug that were found in his system during the autopsy were significantly higher than they should have been, considering that more than a week had elapsed since his last infusion.
The finding sparked questions in the minds of some fans, as well as members of law enforcement, who immediately began a criminal investigation into the circumstances surrounding Perry’s death following the conclusion of the initial death investigation.
A Criminal Investigation Is Launched
The criminal investigation into Perry’s death sent shockwaves throughout his fanbase, though many were relieved that the matter was being looked into further.
Though investigators have yet to refer to the inquest as having anything to do with homicide, multiple people have been questioned as part of the investigation, including Brooke Mueller, ex-wife of actor Charlie Sheen, and a mystery person whose identity has yet to be revealed, but who has been described during the investigation–along with Matthew Perry himself–as a “walking pharmacy,” referring to the actors’ alleged efforts to acquire drugs.
Now, the investigation is concluding, and investigators are expected to charge multiple individuals with having a part in helping Perry to acquire that fatal dose of ketamine.
In fact, investigators finally know how Perry got his hands on the powerful dissociative drug.
An Explosive Ring of Criminal Charges Are Coming to Hollywood This Week
Criminal charges for those who allegedly assisted in Matthew Perry’s acquisition of the fatal ketamine are expected, and they could come as soon as this week, according to a veteran attorney in Hollywood.
“Charges will be coming any day now,” said Tre Lovell, a veteran entertainment attorney, in an interview with the US Sun. “This investigation has been going on for a long time, and the leaks are starting to come out, which are probably intentional.
Lovell, a veteran entertainment attorney, told the US Sun:
[Anonymous law enforcement sources] are not going to leak stuff unless they intend on indicting; otherwise they’ll get egg on their face.
There are several ways to impose criminal liability, either through the distribution of a controlled substance, an unlawful act that rose to criminal negligence or recklessness, and even in some cases involuntary manslaughter and mail fraud.
There cases are tough, when somebody overdoses, that’s an act of their own volition, so to impose criminal culpability there’s a very high standard. They have to get warrants, they have to get subpoenas, they have to get private information from his physician, and this takes a lot of time.
Law Enforcement Cracks Down–Even in Hollywood
Lovell continued, explaining the reason for law enforcement’s motivation in the criminal investigation into Matthew Perry’s death, saying he believes it has to do with the intention to “deter future acts” like those that allegedly led to Perry’s acquisition of the drug.
“There’s a big policy now to attack this kind of drug distribution, with fentanyl at the top of the chain and these other controlled substances that are floating around, like ketamine,” Lovell said. “The government—both at federal and state level—has a mandate to go after drug dealing like this where there are overdoses, so they’re going after the suppliers, and part of the reason for that strategy is deterrence.”
Lovell explained the thinking behind such an investigation, saying the following:
The best way to prevent someone from distributing drugs is deterring them from getting involved in the first place. Where there’s a high profile victim, and the press is monitoring it, it’s the government’s opportunity to show there are severe consequences for supplying people drugs.
Not only can you be liable for distributing a drug; you can also be liable for homicide. And they’ll want to make that clear in this investigation.
Criminal Charges to Highlight a Shocking Hollywood Secret
Though there’s been no official announcement as of the time of this publication, landmark, explosive charges are said to be coming against multiple people who allegedly played a role in helping Perry acquire the final dose of ketamine that ultimately cost the late actor his life.
Some have even suggested that the charges, which could carry hefty penalties upon conviction, could uncover rings of drug dealing in Hollywood that will shock and sadden fans, family members, and fellow actors and actresses.
Only time will tell.
