Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party kicked off its 2026 season on August 7, but guests attending the first night discovered that Walt Disney World Resort had made a quiet change to one of the event's most beloved entertainment offerings without any advance announcement.
Pain and Panic Are Gone From Mickey's Boo-To-You Halloween Parade
The most immediately noticeable change to Mickey's Boo-To-You Halloween Parade this year is the removal of Pain and Panic — Hades' mischievous minions from Hercules (1997) — from the back of the Skeleton Band float. The duo, who had traveled the full parade route through Frontierland, Liberty Square, past Cinderella Castle, and down Main Street, U.S.A. for years, have been replaced by Anastasia and Drizella, the stepsisters from Cinderella (1950).
The swap is practical on one level: Anastasia and Drizella appear at Magic Kingdom Park far more regularly, making costume maintenance and character casting considerably simpler. But the change also carries a more pointed meaning when viewed alongside everything else Walt Disney World Resort has quietly removed from the parade over the past several years.
Pain and Panic were originally confined behind dark metal cages on the back of the Skeleton Band float, each holding a glowstick — a setup that, between the cages, the glowsticks, and the band playing up front, drew unmistakable comparisons to the imagery of Vegas nightclub go-go dancers. In more recent years, the cages were removed, and Pain and Panic were allowed to wave freely to guests, glowsticks still in hand. For 2026, they're gone entirely — replaced by Anastasia and Drizella, glowstick-free.
A Pattern That Goes Back Years
The Pain and Panic removal appears to be the final piece of a deliberate, long-running effort to strip anything remotely adult from Mickey's Boo-To-You Halloween Parade.
In 2023, Walt Disney World Resort removed the Western dancers who had led the Halloween Hoedown section of the parade for years. The cowgirls, who wore short Daisy Duke-style denim shorts, were replaced by scarecrows in long overalls and straw hats. The Country Bears and other Frontierland characters remain, but the short-shorts are gone.
Before that, the objectified female pirate who once walked alongside the Pirates of the Caribbean float featuring Captain Jack Sparrow quietly disappeared from the parade following the 2018 update to the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction itself — a change that brought new scrutiny to how the redheaded pirate was depicted both on the ride and in the parade.
What the 2026 Parade Looks Like Now
What remains is a Halloween parade that is thoroughly, intentionally family-appropriate. The Headless Horseman still opens the procession. The Haunted Mansion ghosts still glide through the darkness. Disney Villains still command their floats.
What's gone are the winks at the adult members of the audience — the elements that rewarded grown-up guests with something to notice that their children would walk right past.
Trick-or-treating, character meet-and-greets, the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular, and Disney's Not-So-Spooky Spectacular fireworks over Cinderella Castle all continue as part of the after-hours event. New for 2026 is Stitch's Masquerade Mashup, a dance party in Tomorrowland.
Mickey's Boo-To-You Halloween Parade runs twice nightly during Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party — at 8:15 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. The later showing typically draws smaller crowds. The event runs on select nights through October 31, with many dates already sold out. Tickets range from $119 to $229 for adults and $114 to $219 for children nine and under.
