In 2006, 14-year-old Miley Cyrus shot to superstardom when she became the star of the Disney Channel Show Hannah Montana. Cyrus starred as the titular teenager, who was regular girl Miley Stewart by day and superstar Hannah Montana by night.
She starred alongside her father, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, who played her father on the show. Hannah Montana also starred Jason Earles as Miley’s brother, Jackson, Emily Osment as her best friend, Lilly, and Mitchel Musso as her other best friend, Oliver.
Since starring in Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus has become one of the most notable names in the music industry. Over the years, she has produced eight studio albums, three live albums, and four extended plays. She has also had a number of hit songs, including “Party in the U.S.A.,” “When I Look at You,” “Wrecking Ball,” and “Flowers.”
However, one song is now the subject of a massive lawsuit and claims of theft.
According to a lawsuit filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court by Tempo Music Investments, Cyrus and some of her songwriters are being accused of ripping off parts of the hit Bruno Mars song “When I Was Your Man” for her song “Flowers.” Bruno Mars released his song in 2013, 10 years before Miley Cyrus released “Flowers.”

Per Rolling Stone, the lawsuit from Tempo Music Investments reads:
“Any fan of Bruno Mars’ ‘When I Was Your Man’ knows that Miley Cyrus’ ‘Flowers’ did not achieve all of that success on its own. ‘Flowers’ duplicates numerous melodic, harmonic, and lyrical elements of ‘When I Was Your Man,’ including the melodic pitch design and sequence of the verse, the connecting bass-line, certain bars of the chorus, certain theatrical music elements, lyric elements, and specific chord progressions,” the lawsuit obtained by Rolling Stone claimed.
“It is undeniable based on the combination and number of similarities between the two recordings that ‘Flowers’ would not exist without ‘When I Was Your Man,’” the complaint, which names Cyrus’ fellow songwriters Gregory Hein and Michael Pollack as co-defendants, continued. “With ‘Flowers,’ Cyrus, Hein, and Pollack have created a derivative work of ‘When I Was Your Man’ without authorization.”

Cyrus’s Intense Personal Struggles
The recently filed lawsuit is not the only struggle Cyrus has faced in recent months.
Earlier this year, fans speculated that the singer’s relationship with her father was not in a good place. In February, she won the Grammy for Record of the Year. When she went up on stage to accept the award, she thanked a lot of people, but Billy Ray Cyrus was not one of them.
Their relationship had reportedly hit a major roadblock when Billy Ray and his wife divorced, and Miley chose her mother’s side.

Since then, things have gone from bad to worse, with the singer saying that her father was now “dead” to her after nasty comments he made.
Billy Ray Cyrus is currently going through an extremely messy divorce from his third, and much younger, wife, Australian singer Firerose, whose real name is Johanna Rose Hodges.
Cyrus has accused the 37-year-old of lying to him before and during their marriage. Meanwhile, Firerose has accused the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer of being extremely abusive during their seven-month marriage.
And leaked audio seems to support her claims that Cyrus has a quick temper and is verbally abusive.
The audio of Cyrus screaming at Firerose was leaked earlier this summer. In the audio, he repeatedly curses at his wife, calling her names. But she was not the only person who was the target of Cyrus’s ire. At various points in the recording, he also went after his ex-wife Tish and Miley herself. He was heard calling Tish a “whore” and Miley a “skank”.
The once close relationship between the father and daughter is now non-existent. And Billy Ray has not apologized for what he said. Instead, he blamed his outburst on his wife.
